Would you recommend Childcare.co.uk for Private tutoring?

has anyone used this site to find a private tutor and have they been any good ? or can anyone recommend a good site to find a private tutor please. I'm not looking at tutoing agencies as and their rates are extortionate compared to any value added.

Where in the uk are you?

Personally, I'd look for personal recommendations. All of these services suffer from the fact that most people use them when they want to fit tutoring around higher priorities as a stop-gap or to earn "pin money", whereas the really good tutors generally don't need to advertise because they have built up a good reputation and get work through word of mouth. Tuition centres tend to be even worse, as the tutors are being paid roughly 1/3 of what the centre charges per hour so they have no incentive to prepare thoroughly and (generally) only work there because they can't get clients privately.

There's a site called "uk tutors" which can be good as long as you're vetting the potential tutors carefully yourself, but again you need to be mindful of the fact that even qualified teachers won't automatically make good tutors because tutoring is very different from class teaching, and doing it well requires a lot of prep-time which many teachers just can't allocate for a 1 hour session.

If you're in the West Midlands, I may be able to recommend somebody, depending on subject and level.
