What do you think to this dress?

Asos In the black. I like it but I'm not sure if it's shape will just swamp me and make me look like a sack of potatoes.

Alternatively I really like the style of this one but it doesn't come in my size and is sold out in the closest size.

Any advice/suggestions? I'm going out with some friends for a smart dinner/drinks/dancing on Friday and am not sure what to wear!

Don't like the first one, and it's dry clean only.

Need more details:

Height, size, age, what color and how much are you prepared to pay?

Mollydoggerson · 28/05/2013 15:46

Both bad.

First one is a bag, second one is too short and trampy.

ComeAlongPond · 28/05/2013 15:55

I am short though. So anything that is short comes to my knees. Anything that's a normal length is way too long on me.

Early 20s, size 6, 5 foot 2. Prepared to pay up to £50 but not more as I do have other things I could wear so can't justify it really!

The first dress looks like a T-shirt.

The second one might be okay if you are an hourglass(ish) and it doesn't come too low on the bust.

tethersend · 28/05/2013 16:07

The first one looks like an old bloke's t shirt.

How about this or this?

Does it have to have sleeves? What about this?

Have a look at the midi dresses on Topshop's website. I've just this minute received two of their midi tube dresses which look and feel great. Only £30 and perfect for dressing up or down.

soaccidentprone · 28/05/2013 16:37

Oooh - that Mango brocade dress is gorgeous, and a definite classic.

OrangeFootedScrubfowl · 28/05/2013 18:21

If you are five two, as I am, you'll massively struggle to find a T shirt dress that won't swamp you.
T shirt dresses from non petite ranges will definitely not do!

I like the Asos skater dresses that accident linked to best so far.

ifancyashandy · 28/05/2013 18:26

I have the first one. In the orange. I'm size 10 / 34ff an 5'8 and it hangs beautifully. I always get comments in it. Had strangers give me com

Ooh this is nice.
Lace

AlwaysSleepingBeauty · 28/05/2013 18:45

I'm a size 6 too though I'm 5'5 and think the ASOS one would swamp me, so probably would you too tbh. The second one is okay but nothing special in my opinion. I really like the Mango brocade one or the idea of a Topshop tube dress.

AlwaysSleepingBeauty · 28/05/2013 18:45

Ooh that lace one is lovely!

Smartiepants79 · 28/05/2013 18:47

First one seems a bit dull, especially in black.
Second is a bit much! Unless you are about 18 and a size 8.
Like the mango ones!

OrangeFootedScrubfowl · 28/05/2013 19:04

I am buying that lace one for me. Blush

ComeAlongPond · 29/05/2013 13:45

Thank you everyone! Sorry I disappeared, I got waylaid.

Thanks for all the links! I like the mango brocade one, that's really pretty. And I like soaccidentprone's asos petite one, but I'm not sure if it's formal enough? I was hoping for something with a different style skirt as I'm getting a bit bored of swishy skater dresses... I think I'll order the mango one to try.

Thanks again everyone Smile
