Would this hairstyle/colour suit a winter? (Photo on profile)

I'm very pale, medium/dark brown shoulder length hair and blue eyes, think a fat Courtney Cox. I'm considering trying a lighter hair colour and shorter style...should a winter stay dark? Would this colour suit a winter's colouring?

Possibly that may be too warm - it looks gold rather than platinum iyswim, but I'm sure a more expert person will be along in a minute :)

LaCerbiatta · 27/05/2013 23:08

If you're pale and have blue eyes it would probably suit you, but you would no longer be a winter! Smile

I was thinking it might be too golden JennySense and I quite like being a winter tuga...maybe I'll go for just the style and keep my current colour Confused

i have no idea what i am - i have very pale skin, green eyes, very dark brown hair which makes me look absolutely washed out.

i went blonde. ok - my hair always wants to go "warm" blonde, but i have several different shades through it.

it suits me way better than dark - it also knocks years off me. i think ash blonde can look very harsh - mine has a multitude of different blondes ranging from dark blonde to ashy tones.

i would say try it.

ive no idea what my colour "type" is, but my natural colour is wrong on me for some reason....blonde suits me.

If you dont like it you can easily dye it back. i have tried all colours, red, black, blonde and my natural colour.

It would need a lot of upkeep as dark roots show through very quickly

Annianni · 28/05/2013 07:25

If you went lighter, you would still be a winter... As the season is based on your skin tone, not your hair.

You need to ask Hopefully or Travelin, they do colour analysis.

QueenCadbury · 28/05/2013 08:21

As anni said you will always be a winter based on skin tone. Winters are not always dark-I'm a natural blonde winter. We are cool skinned therefore any hair colour should be cool based. If you colour your hair a warm shade then you are likely to look washed out.

MadAboutHotChoc · 28/05/2013 08:45

Going ash cool blonde from a dark brown requires a lot of upkeep - I think its easier if you already have a lot of grey.

LizzyDay · 28/05/2013 11:14

You could try ash blonde highlights on top but keep the rest of your hair its natural colour.

I think this can work well as it ties in your skin tone and eyebrow colour. You have to make sure the highlights are properly platinum though, and not at all gingery.

A bit like this - bit of a naff pic so just look at the hair colour!

blonde highlights on dark hair

I just keep thinking about that girl in Emmerdale, Debbie Dingle, she went blonde and it looked awful. Maybe best to just stay brown and go with the style rather than the colour.

jan13 · 29/05/2013 07:09

i really like that picture of blonde highlights on dark hair. that is what i wanted when i went to get high lights on my hair when it was darker, and the hairdresser said she could'n't make that type of colour on my hair, she just bleached my hair and it was awful looking. so ive went and put an all over blonde dye on it (ash blonde) and it doesn't look too bad but it still needs fixed. im going to go to a training school. i think OP that blonde would be nice on you if you go for ashy tones and not too light, but that it will require a lot of upkeep like others have said. i am a summer and suit my hair light, yet i went ash brown and it was lovely, so i think it can work both ways.

withjamin · 29/05/2013 15:23

Cool blonde is v v hard to get w/o brassy or orange undertones, ime. And I think winters are supposed to avoid lightening hair because of this. I spent months doing regular ash blonde wash-in-wash out rinses and had to get the orangey ends chopped off in the end.

LaCerbiatta · 29/05/2013 16:49

If the op is pale, with cool undertones, and has blue eyes, if she was to dye her hair ashy blonde wouldn't she turn into a summer?

If your season depends only on skin then wouldn't there be only two seasons? cool and warm?

I'm genuinely interested. I had my colours done with colour me beautiful and also read their book and understand better how their classfication works. But for them, people change their group, be it with a new hair colour or age. You just don't change whether you have cool or warm undertones.

MadAboutHotChoc · 29/05/2013 18:48

No, when you have a HoC analysis, your hair is covered so your hair colour has no bearing on how you are seen. Its all in the skin tone - which is why fake tan/make up can be confusing.

There are blonde winters as well as brunette winters but like wearing the wrong season clothes, changing hair colour to a warm toned one will make you look ill/washed out.

lalalonglegs · 29/05/2013 19:32

A decent colourist at a salon should be able to tell you what tones would suit you - go along and talk through your options.

jan13 · 31/05/2013 07:07

i think it is a bit confusing as well, how a winter can still be a winter with blonde hair. they would still have the dark eye brows though whereas summers probably have naturally lighter eyebrows and tones.

i went to the training hairdresser yesterday and explained i wasnt happy with my hair after i tried to dye it blonde myself and it had a green tinge and was uneven colour. she said i looked in the mirror too much! she said it was fine but that the cut wasn't very good, and that there was a slight green tinge. she said it was a bit static, and i told her id used the brazilian blow dry at home kit and she said i had too much time on my hands. i think this girls is a bit rude?? lol. anyway, i am going back today and she is going to put a toner and half a head of highlights to get it looking better for me!
