wearing high heels when they make you taller than the average man

argh! i have bought so many high heels and love to wear them but feel like the 50 ft woman when i wear them, towering over most of the population! I am only 5.6 yet feel ridiculously tall that it makes me self conscious

shall i just embrace it and be happy to be taller?

DP and I are about the same height barefoot, so I tower over him in heels. I think he'd rather be taller, but wouldn't ever not want me to wear them.

I am 5'8", about half an inch taller than DH and am very happy to totter about on heels/wedges/platforms. Doesn't bother DH in the slightest and I couldn't care less what anyone else thinks!

sedgieloo · 27/05/2013 22:40

Mavisgrind - on mat leave now but yy I did exactly the same!

Speaking as a small person, I'm jelous. I have a couple of friends who are around 6 foot in heels and I think they look great.

MadBusLady · 27/05/2013 23:11

I'm 5'8 and find heels very comfy, but they do make me feel like Mrs Jolly Giant Woman in comparison to the rest of the world. I don't feel tall and powerful, I feel like an elephant. Sad I have to be careful not to do an apologetic stoop thing when I'm wearing heels.

I need some taller friends.

Lucylloyd13 · 28/05/2013 10:52

I' 5ft 9in. Normally I wear two inch heels, but on occasions i go to four. I feel great.

The only conceesion i make is of practicality. If I am with a man socially and i want an equal relationship, I pick my heel height so that i am not taller than him.

SummerRainIsADistantMemory · 28/05/2013 10:59

I'm 5'8 and my heels of choice are 4/5" so I tower over dp and most people around me wearing them.

It doesn't bother me, it's the only time I get close to looking my father and cousins in the eye tbh so I still don't feel especially tall. My mother hates my heels though, she's short and it annoys her when I'm that much taller than her... Another reason to love them Wink

Trixy... I was at an event recently and photoes were being taken at the edge of a lawn. I stood on the tarmac in front as my heels were sinking in the grass and one man was using me as a shield to avoid being in the picture Grin

janey1234 · 28/05/2013 11:09

Another 5'11 here and I love wearing them. DP is same height, so I might not wear them on our wedding day though! But that's the only time it would worry me.
I think that if other people get to wear heels to make their legs look longer and thinner, why shouldn't I?!

Embrace the height as everyone else has said.

Mrsrobertduvall · 28/05/2013 13:52

I'm 6 feet tall and rarely wear heels as I just feel too tall, and am constantly bending over to hear what my short friends are saying.
I do own some gorgeous pairs, which I look at lovingly.

I wore them on my wedding day, and dh stood on a small wall for photos. Grin

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 28/05/2013 13:59

I'm 5' 8" and so is DH (nearly) - I wear heels all the time. There are loads of wedding photos with me taller than him.

I don't mind short man / tall women motif; I was always fond of a glamorous photo of Norman Mailer and his (sixth???) wife Barbara in which she towers over him and they both look strong and feminine / masculine. not going any deeper into Norman Mailer's relationships with women than that

If you are 5' 6" and taller than most men in heels I'm guessing you live in South Manchester Grin

Sorry to hijack the thread but whilst we are on the subject of high heeled shoes...can someone please recommend to me a brand / or shop where I can find really comfy high heels? I don't really wear heels because I cannot bear that burning feeling in the balls of my feet or my toes being pinched. I've not had much luck with heels, stilettos in particular.

I'm willing to pay up for a comfy pair but i could do with help on where to find them. Thank you.Smile

I though this was about blokes in drag...

I used to wear heels for work and I'm 5"7 1/2, so not massively tall.
