Would you go the 'full trollop'?

Have a wedding coming up, which is exciting for two reasons:

  1. friend marrying a gazillionaire, so a rare occasion for me to pretend to be fancy
  2. is old school friend, so will be seeing lots of people I haven't seen for many years and certainly not post-children.

So, would you wear the Ghost dress - navy, patterned, perfectly nice, but safe?

Or the Acne dress - pink silk, quite out there - not slutty in a TOWIE way, but will probably require tape to avoid side-boob.

I probably should have seen the light at the words 'side-boob', but WWYD?

I do have a nice DVF that they won't have seen. It's just, you know, I've worn it.

Sound of toys being thrown from pram.

Well, is in June. But I suppose that's no guarantee. Is in London, so probably mostly indoors. although stupidly, I have no idea if it's in a church. Must check.

I wouldn't go for either. The Ghost dress looks like a work dress and the pink one looks an odd unflattering shape and weirdly loose at the top. I'd go for something that fits properly and is a fresher style, like the skater type or tea dress.

skater

Regular shape but funky pattern

apatchylass · 20/05/2013 18:12

Love the pink dress. Can't you wear something really fantastic underneath that solves the boob problem - like one of those camisole bras that should be on show anyway?

ProjectGainsborough · 20/05/2013 18:13

No, no, I assure you it is flattering. Slutty and inappropriate for a wedding, but flattering.

Thanks - will have a look at links. Although now pining for the Whistles dress...

I'd flog the ACNE dress (dress agency or ebay) while it's still got money left in it and buy something new with the cash.

KvassInTheNight · 20/05/2013 18:15

Just looking at the skater dress and saw this SURELY THIS IS NOT A THING

Onesleeptillwembley · 20/05/2013 18:16

The back of the ACNE (unfortunate name) looks like a pink version of the outfits the girls with Dexys Midnight Runners.

ProjectGainsborough · 20/05/2013 18:17

If anyone can suggest a demure camisole/underwear type solution to the pink dress, I will be their devoted servant. I love it so, but regretfully do agree with the mass that it is not, in its current state, wedding-appropriate.

Is not church wedding, I discover. All inside one venue.

pink one!

Fillyjonk75 · 20/05/2013 18:29

Ha, I'd avoid the ankle socks unless I had twiglet legs like the model. If I wore them I'd look like I'd been throwing the hammer outside the church.

MrsLettuce · 20/05/2013 18:30

Well, maybe you could put a slim fitting, under the knee length, pencil shaped, grey, strapless, tube dress under it. maybe

MrsCampbellBlack · 20/05/2013 18:34

I reckon for a London non-church wedding to a gazillionaire, the pink dress is fine! I bet there will be loads of boobs on display.

ProjectGainsborough · 20/05/2013 18:37

Maybe if I wore it with the socks, it would appear more demure...

OP posts:
MrsLettuce · 20/05/2013 18:39

Surely depends if it's old money or new though MrsCB? Or not anymore?

ProjectGainsborough · 20/05/2013 18:41

Would something like this work, do we think?

OP posts:
ProjectGainsborough · 20/05/2013 18:41

Oh, it's definitely new money...

OP posts:
MrsCampbellBlack · 20/05/2013 18:42

Its not church, it'll be fine. Old money, new money - who cares?

MrsCampbellBlack · 20/05/2013 18:43

Don't do a camisole - will ruin the dress. If you wear it, you have to wear with confidence. Use tit tape if necessary.

But I don't think its trollopy anyway. Its acne, its therefore directional surely Wink

buttercrumble · 20/05/2013 18:43

Pink

HauntedArmchairOfDoom · 20/05/2013 18:43

If you can absolutely DEFINITELY get away with it, the Acne one, hands down.

Ashoething · 20/05/2013 18:44

They are both horrible-sorry. But the pink one edges it if you are-under 30,a size 8 and 6ft tall?

ProjectGainsborough · 20/05/2013 18:48

Oh yes. And I am also Giselle. Forgot to mention that Wink

Feel a bit mean now. Not vulgar new money. But still new, if am being honest...

OP posts:
ProjectGainsborough · 20/05/2013 18:50

Thanks MrsCB. Just mentioned it to DH, who is pretty conservative and he was surprised it was considered slutty. Does show a lot less flesh on me than model. But I cannot risk boob exposure. Is just not my bag...

OP posts:
HauntedArmchairOfDoom · 20/05/2013 18:51

I saw a wedding party in a vast Cathedral the other day. The guests wandered around the sunlit 1,000 year old cloister.

Several of the young women wore:

short tutu-style skirts
corsets type tops
oodles of fake tan
stripper heels
hair extensions

Grin

I'm not an old gimmer or anything much but honestly, I was fairly taken aback that apparently they were unable to distinguish between a wedding in a cathedral and Sugar Hut
