What classic items of clothing will you keep for your DDs?

My mum had only a few things that she kept and when we saw old photos of her in the 50s / 60s were forever saying, 'why didn't you keep that?'
I don't think she thought about it that much, having five children to raise!

So while I am having a sort out I have a few things that I'd like to put away for my DDs (only 4 and 1.5 yet!) because I can't get into them anymore but don't want to sell or charity shop as they are just too good to get rid of

So far I am keeping:
Vintage knee length full skirted taffeta dress
A NEXT black full skirted triple layer chiffon skirt
A knee length Reiss grey blue wool skirt with a side slit
A Jaeger bias cut long black skirt
Sheepskin fur coat
TopShop black flapper style fringed mini dress

Anybody else planning on doing this? What 5/6 things would you keep?

My dd is 16 and is a completely different shape and size to me so there is no point keeping anything. Not that she would want any of my clothes anyway as we have very different tastes!

Blazers are the only items in keeping, maybe any classic ageless type bags and dresses to.

See your point Dexter though I have my mum's wedding dress and with its 22 inch waist, the window for even just trying it on was only about a week when I was 14..... I still love looking at it though.

I never kept anything for them - they are likely to be different sizes, and to have different tastes.
That said, dd now wears a dress that I used to wear out in the 80s, only because I never put it out though, rather than consciously saving it for her.

My dm kept a perfect pink sixties coat which she wore on her wedding day. I wore it a lot when I was a teen. I think it helped me think of my mum as the stylish young woman she was before being my mum.

I have a nice Hobbs suit and a missoni skirt which have happy memories for me. I probably won't be around when she is old enough to wear them. I might pin a note into them for her. She will also get my wedding dress which will hopefully be far too big for her as I was a bonny bride!

I will keep my wedding dress for her (could legitimately be cut to knee length and wore as a prom dress), plus a few other special occasion dresses as she may get use out of them or adapt them. I get lots of wear out of other stuff so they will probably be threadbare by the time dd (3) is old enough to fit into them!

I have a few fabulous dresses that I no longer wear. I think dd will have fun with them when she is a teen. I am sure she will have very different taste to me, but she may find something she likes! (Unless she is too fat to fit into them!!!)

My DD wears my flying jacket. She didn't want to, her friend saw it, was about to bag it, and DD decided it was worth having.

sadly it won't zip up on me

I have a hand-knitted pixie jumper with three toggles and a hood made by my DM when I was 3, I'm keeping it for DS, currently 17mo.

DS won't have siblings, so there's not much I can hand on - although he'll be getting my Weebles and My Little Ponies

My dds are always asking why I didn't keep things but tbh I don't think in reality they would actually have worn much of it - shapes and the fit of things etc change.

I will however keep my Westwoods and a Gucci handbag. Tbh though, I imagine I'll want all of them forever, so the dds won't get them unless I get too fat for them!

An Amanda Wakely coffee coloured,beaded, silk full length evening gown that I wore instead of a wedding dress.

Assorted pairs of Jimmy Choo, Gina and Gucci heels. Though I'm only a size 4.5 and DD's dad is 6'3" so suspect she'll have bigger feet than I.

A georgeous Cochinelle chocolate leather tote bag that my mum gave me when I was pregnant.

Otherwise, not much as I suspect DD will end up far too big to wear my clothes. I'm 5'5" and 7st 7lb, and I think she takes after DH much more.

Maybe well preserved handbags are the way to go...then we can spend more and say they are investments for the future!

Not sure I'd like DDs to do anything with them ....makes me think of that scene in Pretty in Pink where Andi cuts up her friend's prom dress and turned it into a monstrosity!

I'kk keep a few things of my own mother's for my potential grand daughters, as I have two sons. DS2's girlfriend wears his prep school blazer as a jacket, which I would never have expected, so you can't account ofr taste.

I'm keeping loads. I've got my black coat and hacking jacket for riding (from when I was 14), and a few amazing dresses (Katherine Hamnett fringed / lace back thing which Jerry Hall wore on the front of Tatler 100yrs ago / marc jacobs pink leopard print/ a Lolita Lempicka jackie O style suit etc etc). I would ebay / charity shop a lot more but catch myself thinking I should save it all for them.
I still wear my mum's jodphur boots from Swaine Adney (they must be 35 yrs old, are wonderful things) and wish she'd kept more of her balenciaga dresses etc, she had some amazing stuff - all went.

I may well keep and pass on my skull scarf, as I wanted it since I was about 15, so it would be nice if it gets some more mileage. It is ivory with black skulls so maybe it could be for a son of daughter. I have quite a few nice vintage dresses that might be nice for a daughter too, at the moment I'm 25 with no children but I love the idea of my daughter wearing my clothes.

Not sure about classic but have kept my denim cut off jacket hand embroidered by me with the names and album covers of my favourite bands. Also, my jeans, which are fabulously soft and almost white with washing, have more hole than denim and have Love and Peace signs all over them. She will inherit them, like it or not
