Yeah, jeans would be taking it a bit far. Trousers should be OK.

haven't got any nice trews other than linen or black jeggings ot horrid black trews I keep for interviews

Hi, how did you get on with jeans?
We're due there soon for afternoon tea. We both have jeans but with shoes.

I stayed for 3 nights at chewton glen (in their top suite no less) and wore jeans. Wasnt out of place at all. I did eat in their fancy restaurant one night and wore black trousers and a shirt but in the afternoon (for afternoon tea) i'd have worn jeans no problem.

obviously the caveat is that these are smart jeans, and shoes not trainers etc etc etc.
