Help! Please help! Does the Head and Shoulders trick really work on hair dye?

Have dyed my hair this morning, the front and sides have come out way too dark, pretty much black really. Looks terrible. Before I flee to Boots to get Colour B4, which I have never used before and am frightened will snap my hair off or something, I'm just wondering if anyone has lifted their colour mistake using Head and Shoulders? If so, how many washes did it take?

Don't know about h & s, but colourb4 does work and didn't damage my hair at all. It is pretty time-consuming though and smells horrible.

I have heard that tomato ketchup works.

Dye was L'Oréal Preference Caracas (as in 'I've made a right Caracas of this dye job'. Supposed to be Iced Chocolate colour but my hair obv too porous and has gone so dark.

Never even thought about Colour B4 being time consuming - hoped to sort it before school run later!

You could fairy liquid with conditioner afterward, but I don't think it or H&S will make much of a difference. Colour b4 is very good but you need a couple of hours to do it. Follow the instructions to the letter. It won't damage your hair at all.

My hairdresser said Head and Shoulders worked. Said it was useless for dandruff, but great for sorting out bad dye jobs.

You can only put a temp colour on after so may look a bit orange.

hey hey im a hairdresser- it does work but there are other things that work better there iz a medicstsd shampoo called polytar its for dandruff but will strip hair colour like no tomorrow hope this helps x

Colourb4 or decolourremover will do the job - and I think de colour remover lets you dye again straightaway.

Colourb4 worked a treat on my hair and left it in good condition

Apparently, whacking loads of a clarifying shampoo into your hair, lathering it to buggery, and then putting a shower cap over the top for 2 hours helps. Especially if you sit with a towel over the lot, to keep it warm. I did this every night for a week, and it really did lift the darkness out of the colour.

And medium to dark brown dye AWAYS ends up black on me too (bitter experience). I'd recommend choosing dark blond to light brown, even if it looks too light on the box.

Colourb4 turned my hair orange. Just saying. H&S worked on my mum recently when she changed brands of dye and it went very dark.

That's interesting to know about Polytar Kirstiemcc. My DF has bucketloads of the stuff and I quite often end up with a colour I'm not entirely delighted with so may give it a go.

Thanks for further replies, I'm a bit reluctant to use the Colour b4 now after reading some reviews where people.s hair was left orange or it ruined the condition. I have loads of grey so not sure if a semi permanent straight after would be up to the job.

Thanks for recommending Polytar Kirstie does it work after one application? I'm going out tomorrow night so would prefer not to have orange/black/straw hair for that!

Callycat - I was using dark blondes and light browns for quite some time but I find they seem to go gingery copper on me very quickly, even using 'cool' toned ones. My natural colour is dark brown, my eyebrows are dark and my eyes are brown and I tan easily so I seem to suit darker shades of brown best. Just not this dark!!!
