Where can I get the clasp fixed on my Mulberry handbag?

I have a Mulberry Bayswater which is my pride and joy (a relic from the good old days when I was working and less skint!). However, the clasp on the bottom half has broken, so that the little metal bit that you turn to keep the bag closed has fallen off. I've put it back in and tightened it up with pliers a few times, but it keeps falling out and needs replacing.

I live in NW London - does anyone know who I could get to fix this by replacing the clasp? Mulberry themselves do repairs, but they insist that you send the bag off to even get a quote, and I'm scared of their prices. Any thoughts on handbag repair men would be much appreciated! TIA.

Uhhh, unless the bag is ancient or has been wilfully misused, Mulberry should repair it for free. It has developed a fault and it's not fit for purpose. I have taken back Vuitton bags to the Westfield store when the clasps became loose and they removed the faulty clasp and put a new clasp on for no charge. Any bag should be fit for purpose, but an expensive, high quality item should last for years.

Do take it back to the store and state your case; don't ask straight out for it to be repaired for free, just say you'd like it sorted out and put the ball in their court.

I just sent an almost-new bag back to Mulberry for warranty repairs and although the defect was small (snapped chain) they said they were unable to repair it :(

So wouldn't count on them going out of their way. It's been a lengthy process too and in the end they offered an exchange (difficult as my type is no longer made and there are very few bags in that price range - not keen on pistachio green), not a refund. So the alternatives are to accept a replacement I don't really like at all or to spend a lot of money upgrading to a nicer model. Neither really appeals to me.

Oh and this "high quality bag" broke after 4 or 5 wears.

I got a new postmans lock on my bag. Cost was around the fifty piund mark.
If you can get to a mulberry store then they will send it for free and you could pick it up from them.

What they will do is ring you and inform you of howmuch it is going to cost amd ask if you want to proceed. I think it took about four weks or so to get my bags back.
They will charge you ten pounds for delivery from the store its returned to if you can take it in store.

You can download the form from their website or they will fill one in for you instore. They will ask if you have receipt and where and when you bought it.

I wouldnt worry about the receipt if it was bought over a year old though given you will be paying for the repair as opppoaed to an in warranty repair.

I got a quote from a local shoe repair shop/engravers for an out of warranty bag. It cost less than £10.00.

Dh has a fairly old and much used Mulberry messenger bag which needed a clasp repair recently. He took it into Mulberry and it cost about £80 to fix I think, and took a good few weeks before he got it back (clasp good as new though).

If it was something less "Mulberry" that needed doing you could try a local cobbler - DH's bag also developed a split in the seam and rather than paying Mulberry prices he got Timpson to fix it for £10.

Interesting that the cobblers do this sort of thing - I wondered if they might. The part that needs replacing isn't the bit with the Mulberry logo on it, so a generic clasp would be absolutely fine. Thanks so much for all of your input.

I'm disappointed Mulberry don't do all repairs for free considering hiw much their prices have gone up in the last few years.

Just updating on this in case anyone's interested - I did a bit more research and then ended up sending my bag off to these guys, who specialise in handbag repairs. www.saddler.co.uk/repairs.html.
It's just been returned to me and they've done a really good job, for about £50. I'd recommend them if anyone else is having a similar problem with their bag!

I realise this is an old thread but I am trying to sell one of my mulberry handbags- please could someone advise the best place/ way to do it?

I live in New Zealand. For years hankered after a Mulberry. In New Zealand we have a company been making leather bags here - soft napa leather, lined and I think better quality than Mulberry. Also a fraction of the price but still considered high status here. They are called Deadly Ponies - and no, I don't work for them!

*catgirl23 there are several closed groups on Facebook where you can buy and sell "preloved" bags.
You have to ask to join, but then you can post an ad if you're selling.
