Summer shoes and blisters - is there anyway I can toughen my feet up?

Hi, I'm loving the nice hot weather but one problem is I've now ditched my winter boots for summer pumps and my feet are killing me.

I've always been a bit of a blister probe wimp. I've been wandering hobbling around today feeling Envy of all the woman striding about in their pumps and rediculously painful looking fashiony flip flops.

How can I toughen my feet up? Has anyone done the pouring surgical spirit on them thing?

IIRC it's rubbing with surgical spirit rather than pouring but I've not tried it, no. TBH I'd work on the shoes rather than your feet. Pop vasaline on the foot where it's going to rub, shoes allowing. RUbbing a candle on the part of the shoe that's doing the damage helps too.

Wear socks, or those little shoe liner things.

I've just ordered some flexitol blistop from amazon as I have the same issues. Hopefully it will work. Sounds nicer than surgical spirit.

MrsLettuce · 08/05/2013 18:36

Flexitol will soften the skin and 'dissolve' hard skin problems rather than toughening the skin up Confused

It's great stuff though.

stretch the offending shoes to fit your feet. put on some thick socks, then put the shoes on. give the shoes a blast with the hairdryer to warm them up. then wear them round the house for a while and the theory is they will mould to your foot shape better therefore stop rubbing as much.

i tried this with a pair of clarks, and it did help.

NellysKnickers · 08/05/2013 18:39

Surgical spirit works, I know from my ballet dancing days when I was much younger and not such a fatty.

AuntySib · 08/05/2013 18:41

I used to use surgical spirits when dancing in pointe shoes you just rub it on with cotton wool. It did help, but hardened skin when your feet are on show is not a good look!
Wearing shoes in with socks is a better idea, or just wear them round the house for an hour or so at a time until your feet have got used to them.

We had this thread recently. On style. Title something to do with rubbing. Loads of good tips

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 08/05/2013 18:49

Oh no sorry if this has already come up. Thanks for the replies.

I might give the surgical spirit a miss then, hard skin on my heels won't be a good look.

I was planning on wearing them & a few pairs of socks round the house, will def try the hair dryer idea - that sounds genius. And I might give the candle thing a try too.

Och, you'd be very hard pressed to come up with a thread that hasn't come up already!

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 08/05/2013 19:04

Thanks mrsL, you are right everything that can be covered probably has.

I think I'll just pop into AIBU and start a thread on people parking in parent and child spaces Grin

nah - was just it was only last week and was quite long

Startail · 08/05/2013 19:14

Of all women just refused to buy anything except comfy leather lined sandals manufacturers would be forced to offer a decent choice.

It's madness wearing shoes that are clearly designed to be worn with socks, with bare sweaty feet.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 08/05/2013 19:19

Looking through the old thread now. Thanks frugal
