Calling all perfumistas! Tom Ford's new Sahara Noir - what do you think?

Can't work out whether I absolutely love it, or absolutely don't. It smells rather churchy on me - frankincencey and incensey. It's unusual though - spicy and just a little bit sweet. Also, it lasts for ages.

It's £££ though. Has anyone else tried it? What say you?

Haven't tried it but the last few TF releases I've sampled have been meh.

Comme des Garcons Incense Series and Tauer do the gold standard niche incenses for much less (££, not £££). Etro's Messe de Minuit (also ££, check Escentual) is also a cult classic.

More talk about incenses on the Perfumista thread. Get a sample or decant of one of the above and if you love it, return to TF?

Haven't tried it but suspect I'd like it and not be able to afford it. His Tuscan Leather is the nicest thing I have ever smelled - all old books and mucky pubs: I love it.

Frugal funny you should mention niche frangrances - I've just been on to Les Senteurs and ordered samples of Ambre Sultan and Arabie by Serge Lutens, also L'air du desert morocain, which is a Tauer perfume, and Shem el Nessim by Grossmith.

Can't wait for my parcel of treasures to arrive! I absolutely love deep, spicy orientals and am looking for something a little bit different. Sahara Noir is unusual for a mainstream perfume, but it's a bit... I don't know... incensey. And I'm sure if incense is your thing there are better ones out there.

Quite a few of us are heavily into niche and you'll get a sounding board there!

I wear incenses a lot; for me Zagorsk is the most work-appropriate, most others I wear at home in the evening purely to enjoy them.

Oooh thank you, yes I will! I love perfume but always seem to end up disappointed when I go sniffing round the department stores. Am really excited to be sampling some of the more niche perfumes.

Oh I must try this one. It sounds like one I'd like. I agree that TF seems to have gone off the boil lately.
I love Ambre Sultan and L'air du desert morocain. Arabie pulls too much cumin on me though.
My favourite of all time was Angelique Encens, of course discontinued. If anyone knows anything similar please let me know.
