Jeans for the non curvy figure

I struggle with jeans as I am quite straight up and down so they cut in on the waistband or are massive round the bum. I used to quite like gap long and lean but they've been discontinued.

I'm a size 12-14, a little extra padding round the tummy so don't want too low, my tummy button is really high up so the little waist I do have is very high up and below that my hips are kind of square with a smallish but not flat bum iyswim.

I tried on the Levi's slight curve ones and the fit felt pretty good but they didn't feel quite amazing enough to pay £80 for, I don't mind up to maybe £60 but usually prefer about the £30-£40 mark if possible. I don't want too trendy and due to my calves I can't do skinnies (can't get them large enough in the leg to get on yet small enough round the bum not to fall down) and I'm not a massive boot cut fan- straight or slim is better.

Can anyone recommend any styles to try? I was wondering about trying men's jeans but will that leave a baggy bit where I don't have balls?!

And trouser recommendations would be good too- same issue it's just that I live in jeans (and wear through the knees with alarming speed).

The jeans for pear shaped thread has replies but none here yet. Looks like MNers are a curvy lot then.

No real advice but I feel your pain! Best I can find for skinnies are the gok wan for tu perfect skinny jean. Boot cut and straight are hopeless.

Proper trousers are just a no go. I wear chinos instead as they only need to fit on the waist. Would love some flat fronted cigarette pants tho...

kerstina · 08/05/2013 09:22

I feel your pain too. I tried on some free soul jeans in txmax. I really liked the fit of the 25'' waist but could not do button up .Had a stupid massive plastic tag which did not help. Tried on the next size up and they were too loose. I must be between sizes.
I am not curvy at all so I find hipster type the most flattering in skinny or slim fit. Next are probably best I can find but I want a really nice pair. Let me know if you find any !

I have narrow hips and a flat bum, so I find jeans designed for pear shapes fit really badly. I like Dorothy Perkins jeans, their straight leg ones are really flattering on me.

I am also narrow of hips and find a lot of jeans more suited to a pear shaped figure. Like slim fit too, as well as skinny.

Next are OK, the other good ones I have found recently are Warehouse slim fit surprisingly!

Thanks, now I just need some child free time to go shopping!

Well the next ones are good- got the fancy slimming ones. They come up just high enough to cover the tummy flab but not too 'mumsy' iyswim. They have a nice stretch but still quite thick. Will have to see how they feel after wearing but much nicer than the Levi's and £40 cheaper.

Did you get measured and fitted as a Slight Curve?

This is all new to me but I did this in a Levi's shop today and I am one.

The jeans fit great, which is surely the point.

Maybe you are a Full Curve?

Pusspuss1 · 17/06/2013 18:33

I have the slight curve stretch skinnies in navy - I love them and have worn them loads. Totally worth the excessive price tag IMHO!

Bunbaker · 17/06/2013 18:37

I know this might sound silly, but why don't you look at jeans for men instead?

I am pear shaped and it is only recently that I have managed to find jeans that don't gape at the waist because more shops realise that women want women shaped jeans. M and S do a huge range of jeans nowadays - for Mrilyin Monroe shapes to Kate Moss shapes. Also, Next jeans seem to be cut in a more boyish style (well to me they do as they gape at the waist). Levis non Curve jeans are very boyish shaped and you can often find them in TK Maxx.

wrigglebum · 17/06/2013 19:27

Definitely a slight curve! The Demi curve dig on the waist and bag round the bum. Will have to keep an eye on TK Maxx then if the have them in sometimes. Costco sometimes have the Levi's but only in Demi curve.

I think men's jeans might be good for baggier styles but probably wouldn't be good for slim fit.

Zara TRF are good for that shape. I have several pairs black white and denim all a good fit although the legs are long. Also mens from H and M really fit me too I discovered after putting my ds black ones on by mistake

KnittedWaffle · 17/06/2013 19:33

I second the Next slimming/shaping ones. I tried on some yesterday and have bought two pairs because they are so nice.
I have skinny legs, flat bum, slim hips and no waist definition.
Waiting to see how they wash but otherwise quite impressed.

wrigglebum · 17/06/2013 19:33

I have rather short legs though so would need to cut about a foot off Zara or H&M jeans Grin.
