I'm going to a Masquerade ball. Please help me not look a twat.

That's all. Floor length dresses not obligatory, so I'd rather go shorter, but black tie so still pretty glam.

I'm in my 20s, have long brown hair, and am a size 6. Tight budget, so I'd rather not go all out... I have a dress like this which I thought would work? Then I'd just need a mask.

Other suggestions for dresses very welcome though! And mask tips. Please Smile

You are in your 20s, a size 6 and are planning to wear that dress.

THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY YOU WILL LOOK LIKE A TWAT!!!

Even in a ridiculous mask?!!

There are loads of nice looking ones on Ebay - I just searched under masquerade mask and lots came up.

You might want to think about one that is attached to a stick that you can hold up against your face, rather than one that you wear round your head with elastic. The elastic round the head jobbies can smear make up, mess up hair, and you can be left with red lines on your face should you choose to take it off.

I love the dress. What shoes were you going to wear?

Sounds like a lovely evening Smile.

Something like this would work well.

ComeAlongPond · 06/05/2013 22:11

Thank you - will check out ebay too, I didn't think to look there! The stick is a good point, I will do that.

I'm not sure about the shoes, if I wear the dress I already own I can treat myself but I have awkward size feet - 4.5, which not many places do. So I usually end up wearing my plain black heels which are nice enough but not terrible exciting!

Thank you Smile

Grin tethersend!

The dress is pretty exciting so plainer shoes wouldn't be bad (unless you want an excuse to buy new ones, that is...). And you could go for a black satiny/feathery type mask. I'd avoid sequins on the mask, cos the dress has sequins and you don't want to go into overkill.

Or you could go with tethers suggestion Grin.

ComeAlongPond · 06/05/2013 22:32

Well after tethers helpful suggestion I'm thinking of scrapping the dress and letting that chicken mask do the talking!

Black mask sounds like a plan, there are loads on ebay that are really nice. I also like the last one on here but it's in the US and more money than I wanted to spend on the mask!

I would like an excuse for new shoes, but probably will wear the plain ones for this anyway.

That mask is GORGEOUS!!!

Could you make something like that? (I'm seriously shit at this kind of thing.)

ComeAlongPond · 06/05/2013 22:51

Not sure. Mayyybe. There's instructions for something similar (in that it is stuck on) here so probably it could be adapted?

Yeah, I think so. There must be some black floral net fabric with a large enough design that you can cut out one of the flowers to see through. Should be able to get the glue online, I would have thought.

I think that's a really cool idea! You will look fab!

ComeAlongPond · 06/05/2013 23:06

Sounds like a plan! Thank you Smile I'll let you know how it turns out (may resort to ebay as well just in case...)

This one
or this lace one
Or a bit expensive - a fine metal one
Or gold and black
Or cheap and simple

ComeAlongPond · 07/05/2013 14:12

Ooooh that metal one is gorgeous! Loving the owl one too.
