DD wants the ends of her hair dyed. Help!

After her exams DD wants to dye the last 5 inches or so of her hair pink. I have no idea about temporary/semi permanent dyes/where to get bright colours/how to actually do it so it doesn't look a mess

Anyone got any advice to offer??

If your DD has anything other than light blonde hair, you'll have to bleach the hair before putting pink on it. Some colourants lighten the hair as well as colour but I can't think of which specific brand off hand. Stargazer, Smart colours and Directions are the best of the temporary bright hair dyes in my experience.

Can't she just go to a salon? I assume she'd have to lighten it first. YOu can always trim the ends if it looks a mess

I had my ends pink just before going back to work after maternity leave.
My hairdresser bleached the ends then put the pink on over the top. It was a beautiful vibrant colour at first but quickly faded to a washed out pink so needed constant top ups of the pink dye.
She used a product called crazy color.
But when I wanted it gone, stripping it didn't work so I had to have a bleach wash on it and now my hair is very dry.
Would definitely do it again though!

She could always try this: It would give her an idea of what colours to go for and how they look.

Thanks all. DD has light blonde hair, so think the pink will work straight off. I just don't know where to buy pink dye, what to look for (semi permenant?), and how to get it on without it looking rubbish. Don't want to have to pay a salon

Definitely look for semi permenant, all the brands I mentioned are semi. You can definitely order directions colours on amazon (they have a massive range to choose from) and I think Schwarkopf ( sorry for crap spelling) have started selling some bright colours, I do recall seeing a raspberry pink dye and a bright orange one the last time I was in boots. DD has highlights which are not cheap to maintain,happy to pay for those but not crazy colours too that mess her hair condition up,so wants to continue with highlights so she colours the ends in with sharpies...works well we are both happy

I have had shocking pink hair, it was brilliant. I used Stargazer, I think it was 'flamingo pink' and I applied it with a tint brush which made it a much tidier job, tint brushes can be bought inexpensively from Boots/Superdrug.
It is true it will require regular re doing, but it's just a question of re painting it. It's totally worth it, plus if she only wants the ends (smart) it can be chopped of with little consequence,as it will be a little but drying-not dreadful though as in her case no bleach

This is in all Boots stores, brushes on with a tint brush really well and looks great. It's a semi so gradually washes out.

The one HoneyDragon linked too has instructions for dip dying well the red one I used on dd did, the 8 wash thing is a bit of a fib too, she still has hints of it in her hair nearly 2 months later.

Bleach the tips with 30 vol for twenty minutes then use stargazer or similar to dye it. The worst that can happen is she'll need a haircut.

You need to bleach even with light blond hair, else the colour won't stick.

The young girl who served me in M&S yesterday had this exact hair do and I thought it looked lovely on her.
Having had red highlights put in my hair before, I agree with others that they fade quickly. But if you can live with that or the upkeep, then it's fine!

Tell her to do two inches first.

You can get smart colour in wilkinson and SuperDrug. It works. Don't use the bleach part, just do the pink if she's blonde already.

Directions can be obtained on eBay and there are more different shades on there.

I have just gone pink again, I feel fab :)
