Is there a rule about stylish shorts length?

I have 3 pairs of flat fronted linen trousers. They are tailored (ie proper fit waist with fly and pockets). They are useful colours. They are also exactly the wrongest of mid-shin length. I am going to turn them into shorts.

Any advice?

On the knee? An inch below? Is there a rule?

A turned up cuff?

I'm aiming for classic, elegant and stylish. I don't really do fashionable.

I'd personally go for either just on the knee or an inch below with a turn up.

I think on the knee or a fraction above would be most elegant. If below knee your verging back towards an odd looking 3/4 length trouser. Turn up is classic if the fabric is thick enough/ starchy enough. If it's a floppy linen it might be annoying to keep it looking smart.

Yes the fabric is thick enough for a turn up without it flopping open.

When you both say on the knee do you mean in the middle of the kneecap? Half way up?

I'd say middle of the knee cap. no higher than that.
