Help please with dreadful hair on holiday

I have what can only be described as dreadful hair. It is thick and very naturally wavy.

Even my hairdresser admits it's difficult. For every day wear I blow dry it as straight as possible and then straighten it further with GHD's , It is shoulder length.

My biggest problem is what to do with it on holiday. I cant bear to stick a baseball cap on as I get too hot. If I go in the pool and then leave it to dry naturally it is just a frizzy mess ( think brillo pad). Sadly I do not have petite facial features so scraping it back is not a good look.

The other issue is having to wash it every night on holiday and then spend nearly an hour blow drying etc is such a chore.

Does anyone else have similar hair? And if so what do you do ?

Have you tried a leave in conditioner in thr day? I have a Kevin Murphy one that's pretty good.

Also Keratase make a product that has a sunblock in it. You spray onto the hair and scalp after washing or rinsing from the pool. It saves you needing to wear a hat.

How about some hair bands or scarves rather than a cap? Or a straw hat might be cooler?

I haven't tried it personally, but a lot of people recommend the Bumble and Bumble spray.

How does your hair look with the leave in conditioner in it? Is like like wet look gel or does it just stop it drying to a frizz?

I gave up trying to "do" my hair on holiday years ago. I don't take straighteners or a hair drier anymore.

I buy some the sea salt waves type spray and some oil based, anti frizz leave in products. I go with the waves instead of fighting it and spray the product in using my fingers to twist sections or do a few thick, loose plaits whilst its drying, then just shake it out so that it falls in thick waves. Because of humidity it's no good using a hair drier for this type if hair as it just frizzes up. The product makes my hair heavier and it weights it down enough to stop it frizzing. I often go out while my hair is still damp now, knowing it will just dry as it is.

During the day I tend to pull it into a messy bun, I am also not one for scraping it back as I feel most unattractive like that.

downton can you recommend any oil based anti frizz products please?

I have exactly the same hair as you. I blast it dry, spray liberally with this and wind up in a twisty bun till I'm going anywhere. Take the bobble out and you have wavy, frizz free beach hair that smells of coconut.

John frieda do one too. Just go to boots- there are lots of ranges with them in. Look for ones that are sort of separated into half oil/ half water in the bottle, you can see the oil on top. Tried an Argan Oil one last time. I don't really like the pure sea salt ones as they make it crunchy as it dries. That's why I buy the oil ones- sorry am not at home and can't remember what brands I've had other than John Frieda.

Hi purple. I hate wearing my hair off my face but have found an easy put up style that doesn't feel like its scrapes back and you can do it easily and looks reasonable! Do a French plat on the fringe and top section - not too wide going back to nearly your crown. (Easy to learn - look on you tube) then pull the rest into a side ponytail so you can still see the hair from the front. Either ruffle up the pony and wear it high ish or wear it lower and pin into a messy bun. Or do the ponytail leaving that top section loose then sweep across and pin it to the side.

Have the same problem - like that episode of friends where Monica goes on holiday!! I don't really have a solution as I tend to just tie it back in the day then try to dry nicely for the evening (getting hot and bothered in the process!). Might try some of the products recommended here.

Do the salty sprays make your hair dry?

A bit like this but mine is a lot messier! And on the side. If you can get a handle on braiding the top you can also just braid about 1/2 way back and leave rest wild - it's easier with the fringe and top out of the equation.

oooh yes I like that. I will have to get some practice in with the braiding but I still have nearly 6 weeks to go thankfully

I am sideshow bob's twin sister on holiday. My hair has always been a complete nightmare then I chemically straightened it (product from amazon about £30) and its heaven now. Not totally straight just a soft wave and NO FRIZZ!! It's a miracle . Took a lot of work but totally worth it.

fatty I bought that product from Amazon but was too scared to use it in case it stripped the colour out? is your hair coloured?

I have very thick & wavy/frizzy hair like you OP. When I've styled it properly I love it but on holiday I can't be faffed, so I generally just gloop in loads of leave in conditioner or serum (Frizzease works for me), then put it back roughly in a loose plait or ponytail/bun. If I brush it back it looks too harsh so I just pull it back with my fingers if that makes sense, so it's much more random and messy (in a good way ).

Random and messy sounds good badtaste I'm off shopping later for products then I can have some practice runs
