Is it me or is it only on Mumsnet people whiffle on about quality in kids clothes?

i have never had this conversation in real life. EIther you all buy clothes that fall apart all the time, or your kids never ever grow and so you keep these clothes for years.

I just bought what I liked. And it kind of lasted I suppose. ALl this quality chat is new to me

I don't see what the point is in buying quality stuff for kids. They grow out of everything so fast it doesn't have the chance to last years (unless you have more than one child of the same sex and the oldest doesn't chuck food all over themselves at meal times Grin). I just stick with Primark and Tesco. When they are teens I am sure they will want expensive stuff, now they don't care so neither do I!

I'll tell you something that has lasted for years then, - my boys' Animal sweatshirts, - they were second hand and are still going very strong.

There.

Their Next school coats on the other hand, - also second hand and also going strong apart from the zips - so that's a bit annoying innit.

Most of the discussions have been:

Why are girls clothes all pink and glittery?
Why can't I get boys clothes that aren't turd coloured or stripey or covered in Dinosaurs/Comedy Skulls or Football cartoons?
Why are all the clothes for a preteen girl like something you's see in a brothel nightclub?

My DC are now in adult clothes (DD wears size 6 ) (DS Xs or XXS)
DD is 11yo DS 13. Both too tall for children clothes but very slender.

Now I just have to whinge about the VAT.

i HATE the term preteen too.

Unfortunately in my line of work it was only ever used when talking about a certain kind of picture.

I have 4 boys under 6, 3 of whom were born in march so same season. My db has 4 boys also. We have inherited their "quality" stuff that has lasted well but there's not much that does last. I have noticed the stuff I buy that lasts and looks good is always the same couple of brands. Cheap does not work out cheaper for me.

Well I've just posted a thread here asking about the quality of kids clothes.

As I said on the thread I'm not looking for stuff that will last for years but I do want to get a summer out it.

I'm absolutely sick of buying stuff, especially t-shirts that are faded and misshapen after a few washes.

And yes I do ask people in RL as well, if they mention a store I haven't been in before. Really can't see what the problem is asking for opinions Confused

And as a mum of 4 from 11 up to 30, I have definitely seen a huge decline in quality over the years.

I never cared much about quality tbh. I bought most of DSs clothes from the hell that is sports direct.

It matters because one doesn't want to spend a fiver on a T-shirt for a child and have it look like a rag before they get a chance to grow out of it.

So naturally one wants to compare notes before one wastes ones money.

Discussing quality matters for that reason.

I do in RL. I try to buy Scandinavian brands in unisex colours so I can reuse DD's clothes for any subsequent DCs. For example, I got a red Polarn O Pyret fleece jacket on eBay recently. It is second hand and in good condition. It should last.

I think it is important to think of the environmental aspect of buying clothing.

I chat about clothes quality with my RL friends! Like MrsPresley I am not concerned about them lasting for years, I want stuff that's made of decent fabrics rather than polyester, fits properly and no nasty scratchy labels. My working assumption is that my DD is likely to be a skin sensitive little flower just like her mama!

My friends and i often have a chat about how clothes wash and wear. We have toddlers who are on a mission to run about naked by destroying everything they own!

Really dislike the quality from Next but love the things from H&M (the summer dresses that were £2.99 last year are still going strong in their 3rd home!)

My ds has been wearing 5 Boden shirts in rotation for the last 3 years. They look almost as good as new. They were bought big when he was 3 and still fit him now he's 6. Bloody fantastic quality.

I talk about the quality of kids clothes and with four boys i want it to last. With dd i sell it on or give to friends. I want clothes that wash and wear well, dont lose their shape etc.

I agree next quality is not as good as it was. I shop around and like clothes that are nice colours and not too grown up.

Agree with OP on this despite being a regular poster on those types of threads. It is boring, doesn't matter to most people and most young kids couldn't give a monkeys what they wear. However, I do have 3 boys born at same time of year, I have little time to go shopping & hate buying rubbish clothes which look crap after 3 washes. I now buy a lot of Boden for dd as it resells really well and looks great in the meantime. Now off to post on another quality thread!

There are very few things in H&M I'd like to have in my own wardrobe, but oddly enough their kids' stuff is still excellent quality. Many H&M girls' clothes we have have been worn by 2-3 children before and they are still going strong. And lots of cotton!
