Dyeing a dress - any thoughts/experience?

So, this dress looks perfect for one of my bridesmaids, except that it needs to be navy blue -

With 25% off it's also a bargain at the moment. I was thinking of having it dyed professionally. Has anyone done this? I've done some really shit home dye jobs in my teenage years, so very wary of machine Dylon, but thought a professional job might be worthwhile. The dress is 100% cotton, so figured it should take OK?

Has anyone done it? Is it worthwhile? I haven't even looked at costs yet, should probably do that I guess

Red + navy = some kind of purple most likely. The stitching will remain red because most industrial stitching threads are polyester (=plastic).

Thanks FF. I figured if I went for a dark enough navy it would only be slightly purple, which I could live with. But yes, I remember having similar issues with thread on home dye stuff. Ah well, nice idea.
