Hair. We know it's not the Rachel or the Mullet, but what is current?

I've got no idea about current looks for hair, especially shorter hair. I looked at some hair mags when I was in the salon recently but the cuts shown in them were a bit too avant garde and not something I can imagine real women having done.
Can someone please come and talk to me about this please?

The current trend seems to be for collar bone or slightly longer length hair like the gorgeous Christine Centenera. That's the pic I'm taking to the hairdressers on tuesday!

For shorter hair, Carey Mulligan does it best IMO

Those pics of Carey have given me a lot of ideas about what I may be able to try with my hair, thank you.
I've been feeling completely clueless and wearing the same style since about 2006. but I like it!
