BB cream - I don't get the hype

Am I doing it wrong?

All my friends are raving about it, but I just don't get it.

I don't like thick foundation so it was recommended to me as the best thing since sliced bread

I had a No 7 voucher so I thought I'd give it a go, but I end up with such a shiny face - I do have slightly oily skin in patches (and bought the one for oily skin) but my whole face looks awful with this stuff. I never get a shiny face with foundation. It also makes my face feel odd, kind of sticky

Is it just the No7 is a bit crap? Do I need to persevere with different brands? I just don't see that it's any better than tinted moisturiser or light foundation. I don't get it

Any recommendations for a non-shiny brand

Its a tinted moisturiser. A quite nice modern tinted moisturiser. If that's all you expect, you won't be disappointed.

Well, I've given in a go for the last couple of days and am happy to admit I was wrong.

I've been keeping on top of the shinyness with translucent pressed powder and I really like it

Really natural looking and let's my freckles show through, but just enough coverage. I think I look quite a bit younger and have a sort of healthy sun kissed glow iyswim.

Once the No7 has run out I'll try some of the others to see if they're less shiny-making

If you're in a humid place it might not work well. I live in Singapore and a make up counter woman told me that BB creams aren't great here due to the heat and humidity. Guess that might be relevant in the uk if you're in a nightclub....

So what's a CC cream then? What is all of this?

I recently started using Maybelline BB cream in light. I thought it would give too little coverage for me but am quite happy with it. It gives a nice, fresh look & far less 'made-up' than when using foundation.

In my experience, tinted moisturisers NEVER, EVER worked for me so am pleasantly surprised by the BB cream tbh.

Think its something I'd rather have for daytime use than a night out though.

(CC cream is colour correction, think Bobbi Brown or maybe Mac are doing a new range for all different shades of skin).

The things I learn on here. Definitely buying this tomorrow

ShebaQueen · 23/04/2013 21:49

I have the Max Factor CC cream and I am so impressed with it. It really evens out my skintone but looks really natural.

valiumredhead · 23/04/2013 21:51

I have tried loads and they are all orange ime!

RevoltingPeasant · 23/04/2013 22:07

Agree re: the Maybelline. I picked mine up in Morrison's on a whim as it was reduced to £5 and it's great.

Am tempted to try the Garnier one next.

I had been using No 7 tinted moisturiser but it's heavier than BB cream and definitely makes me shiny.

RevoltingPeasant · 23/04/2013 22:09

valium - the Maybelline one in light/ shade no 2 is not orange.

I have dyed red hair and light/ freckled skin, blue eyes, so I cannot be doing with orange as it looks ridiculous on me. The Maybelline one looks like my skin but smoother and younger.

weblette · 23/04/2013 22:25

Anyone tried the Clinique CC cream? I'm happy with the Garnier BB but the SPF 30 with the Clinique is an attraction

bringbacksideburns · 23/04/2013 22:33

Olay Total Effects do a nice one aswell. Just reordered it with my Tesco online Groceries because there's a fiver off it atm.

I can't afford some of the others.

Ooooooo I have just bought Max Factor CC cream - love it so far! On offer in Boots as a Buy One Get One Half Price Deal.
