HELP! Leather jacket smells of smoke

Does anyone know how can I get rid of the smell of cigarette smoke from a leather jacket?

Inspired by s&b but on a tight budget I decided to hunt for some key pieces to update my wardrobe on ebay. Found a lovely brown leather jacket - love the style, it fits perfectly but it stinks of cigarette smoke. Is there anything I can do with it apart from throw it in the bin?!

I'd try hanging it on the line in a windy day.

Not sure what you'd treat leather with ... Maybe bicarbonate would be safe?

Agree, fresh air is what it needs. Do you have a shed you could leave it hanging in for a while. We had a domestic disaster a few years ago, the damage caused everything to smell dreadful. It would have cost a fortune to dry clean everything to I tried hanging clothes in the draughty garden shed and it did the trick.

Hang it outside, but not in direct sunlight in case it fades the leather.

Thanks all will give it a try! Haven't got a shed but will try to improvise. We've got the wind but it's been a bit wet lately so could end up with a soggy, stinky jacket!

Dry cleaner?

I have some lovely lemony cleaner for my leather sofa. Can't see why you couldn't use something like that to clean the jacket?

Turn it inside out damp wipe the lining allow to dry then febreeze it. Use leather cleaner on leather and hang up outside/garden shed/garage for as long as it takes. Worked on mine after lending to a friend whos' partner smoked (inside their house it appears).

I've had it hung outside all day and it hasn't made a difference. Limoncello - i didn't even consider the lining! IntheFrame I think I have some leather sofa cleaner - will make a start. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Oh put it in the washing machine. Cold wash, short wash on delicates, non-bio, no fabric softener, gentle spin, give it a good bash and a rub when it comes out.

I promise you it'll be fine. I've put suede in the washing machine adhering to the above and it's been fine.
