Honestly - am I being unfair to ds3 by dressing him in this?

I found what I think is a super little matinee coat. It's red, very sweet and lovely to use. It's like //this - well quite similar, not lacy or picot or anything.

Today I put ds3 in it (he is 3 months) and TWO people thought he was a girl! He was also wearing plain white tights I should add, so maybe it was that?

Is it wrong to dress baby boys like this? I mean maybe he looked a bit Victorian but I didn't think he'd be mistaken for a girl. he looks like a potato anyway

my german mil tells me the boys wear tights in winter - not as everyday wear

i can't see how tights are easy at all! i hate trying to pull the things up and god forbid you get a leaky poo! i think both my kid wore neutral coloured babygrows for the first 6 months so no sock situation. i was also a big fan of dungarees as i didn't like the waistband of trousers digging in

to me it just doesn't look a very practical outfit.

should add my ds wore tights in winter when he was younger - no issue with tights per se!

Oh those are gorgeous Smile Thanks ever so much.

I didn't buy the actual one in the link btw. I can't find a link to mine as they're sold out but it's a bit of a finer knit - garter stitch is it, like inside out knitting? and a darkish red. And not that expensive!! Shock

I think.its lovely but i can see with white tights why people would think girl.

My boys wore tights under their trousers when it was cold. Tights are fine for boys. John lewis sell navy onez and h&m do boys tights and funky colour ones for babies, my dd has some lovely green ones from h&m.

Yes we do babygrows as well, most of the time in fact, but sometimes I like to change the record a bit iyswim,

fwiw is there a big difference between tights and babygrows, with the little coat on top? I think it would look quite similar really.

Will look in H&M, thankyou Smile

He has got some orange tights and some brown ones too. The white/cream and brown came in a set from mothercare sale, very cheap which is why I got them. Maybe I'll avoid the white ones then.

I didn't think I was that worried about girl/boy clothes. But not really a red matinee jacket and white tights for a boy.

3 months old? Your baby will not have an opinion - and who cares what anyone else says? There is no 'rule' for what you dress babies in - nor should there be for anyone else!

i got ds tights in gap - they have the bear on the bum which i think is cute! and you can get them in brown/blue etc - maybe not at this time of year though!

tbh my dd is still mistaken for a boy - even when she wears pink or a dress! she's almost 3 but slow growing on the hair front!

Nothing wrong with little boys in tights... They are warm and they cant be kicked off like socks... The little coat and tight combo do look quite girly but who cares? I wouldn't say it's cruel... As long as he's happy, healthy and comfortable! I dress my little girl is a lot of boys clothes- just because i think some things look classier in the boys department. I still dont understand why everything has to be covered in sequins, lace, motiffs, hello kitty and a mish mash of patterns... Block colours and muted tones just look more classic. She is nearly 2 and still hardly any hair so constantly getting mistaken for a boy... Either way she's gorgeous and would make a handsome little boy or a pretty littke girl Wink lol

op i'd think girl too but it's more likely just the white that makes it appear 'girly' if it had been brown or navy i doubt i'd notice.

Dd was a baldy until she was 3 and was forever called a boy, even in all pink - i used to get incredibly riled up about it but now i'd say it's not worth bumping your blood pressure up for :)

Btw, ebay do tights/leggings for babies with jazzy designs on for £3 ish a pair but i think they import from china so may take a couple of weeks - really cute tho!

I used to dress my boys in girls clothes all the time when they were little, boy's clothes were all the colour of sludge. Obvs not flowery dresses, but bright colours, stripes, they both wore a gorgeous red cord coat which came from the girls department.

They didn't object and did not suffer emotional scars as far as I can see Grin

Baby leggings are eBay are good for boys (or girls). I find tights a bit too fiddly for babies.

I would dress my DS in most colours but the shape of the coat is what would make me think girl. As someone says it looks like a little version of a woman's fitted coat.

I have looked everywhere for leggings with feet but can't find any! I have got ONE pair of those from when ds2 was a baby. They are really good and yes much easier than tights.

I used to dress my boys in these:

Their penises have not shrivelled up or disappeared.

Matinee jackets are traditional baby wear designed for ease of winding baby, I'm loving the matinee and tights combo, very WW2. I was out with my friends baby boy last week and 2 people thought he was a girl, I think it's because there was some purple in his outfit.

I had tonnes of matinee jackets for my dd, so cute and practical.

I think the tights are more of a problem than the coat. The tights are outright cross dressing but the coat is ok on it's own or over cords, jeans. I do like the coat but would probably have bought it for my DDs rather than my ds. Ultimately though if it it is the easiest way of dressing your ds then go for it!
