I bought this thingie for my hair...

in Claire's Accessories. It's like a split thick black rubber band, but it comes apart and then clicks back together. It's called a whirlastyle and it has a website \link{http://www.whirlastyle.com/\but it's pants}.

Anyway, on the packet it says 1. Grab 2. Roll 3. Snap

But actually it's more like 1. Fumble 2. Swear 3. Throw whirlaband across the room.

Has anyone got one and knows what to do with it? The picture on the packaging shows effortlessly chic swirly buns with artful tendrils falling out...I just get a lopsided mess with big wodges of hair danging in my face...

I got one of those for DD, and I ended up throwing it away because it didn't matter how many times I tried, I just couldn't do it!

I think you put your hair through the gap, twist it around and then clip the ends together. I don't see how it is possible with all your hair in it though.

Could you pracice on a long haired doll? (That seems to be my solution to all hair questions!)

Glad it's not just me, kid. On the package it looks like you put your hair through with the band close to your head - like you were doing a pony tail...but it won't roll up then. I think you have to put your hair in with it near the ends of your hair...but it just is so...faffy.

yes for my dd1. i have very short hair. i thought i;d give it a go on her hair but put it back on the rack.

From what I can remember, I used to put the end of DD's hair in the slit (while the ends were open) and roll it towards her head, when it was next to her head I tried to join the ends together. No idea if I was doing it right, but I remember she never did leave the house with it still in!

Years ago there used to be a hair thingy for making nice neat buns and fancy styles. Wonder if it is the same? This one was like a rectangle with a hole/slit in the middle. You would brush your hair back into a pony tail style, plonk on the thingy and twist it like mad to make your pony tail secure, THEN drag it slowly down the pony tail to the ends of your hair and then by twisting the thingy, roll it back up towards your head again. It did used to work. As you got closer and closer to your head, it rolls into a tight mass and then, when you went to link the two ends together, it formed a nice neat bun. Hope this might help. Not really sure if we are talkng about the same sort of thing.

Sounds like the same kind of thing, Pisces (as my Mum says, there's nothing new...) I think I may have conceded defeat now.

I am a dab hand at putting DD up in it, but I can't put my own up. One of the mums at dancing gets me to pu her daughters in but I can never get it tight enough because I don't want to hurt her.

I find the best way to do DD's is to pull to nearly the end, then roll up the way on the top. Not underneath. then when it is tight against the head clip it underneath.
