Can someone enlighten me about sulphates in shampoo?????

My hair has really dried out since having children.

I heard somewhere that sulphates (used in most shampoos) strip the hair of moisture, so maybe this is not helping.

So which shampoos are sulphate free?

aha, this sounds like the 'sodium laureth sulphate/sulfate' idea.
It's the detergent that dissolves the grease - some shampoos have more than others but most 'normal' shampoos have some as it's cheap and widely available.

If you want to avoid it, try somewhere like Neal's Yard who use vegetable-derived detergents instead - the ingredients call it 'ammonium lauryl sulphate', so it's still a sulphate, just a less harsh one. Lush do a similar thing by combining sodium laureth sulphate and sodium alkyl sulphate.

TBH not sure there's a way to avoid them altogether and still get your hair clean. Try health food shops if you're really keen...

My dad is very allergic to sulphates in shampoo.

He uses Jason brand and it seems to work for him.

Green People also do them, as do MOP.

Expat, whihc company is MOP?

I have dry coarse hair and I find rinsing my hair (after washing) in cold water really helps to make it shinier and smoother.

It stands for Modern Organic Products
