Non-toxic nailpolish? Where, and which ones?

I wondered if anyone uses this, I have successfully stopped using most other chemical products from my skin and hair over the last 6 months (apart from my wee clarins moisturiser and bareminerals...) but really wondering about nailcolour.
Anyone?

try Zoya Grin

novelsituation · 02/04/2013 20:50

I think Butter London is supposed to avoid the main nasties in nail polish

IndigoBarbie · 03/04/2013 06:24

Thanks will check them out

I had no idea nail polish contained formaldehyde.

HorsesDogsNails · 03/04/2013 07:55

The good quality salon polishes (OPI, CND, etc) are all 3 free so don't contain formaldehyde, DBP or touelene.

Hth's

Sleepwhenidie · 03/04/2013 09:17

Butter London

JumpHerWho · 03/04/2013 10:39

Why are formaldehyde and the others bad? Confused is Essie ok?

JonesH · 03/04/2013 11:35

I can Vouch for OPI nail polishes. Very good brand, relatively inexpensive considering, and free of all nasties.

AgathaF · 03/04/2013 11:54

After some interwebs research, it appears that some are 3 free (free of Dibutyl Phthalate, Toluene, and Formaldehyde), like OPI, Butter London and others. Other polishes are 5 free (free of Dibutyl Phthalate, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, and Camphor), like Zoya, Revlon etc.

I love you Mumsnetters! thanks so much. I am really serious about the chemical on the body thingie - but I do believe i have to take more action for what I put into my body too.........
I'm going to check out the links, and the brands and take the plunge. will report back once I try something out.
Cheers all :)

I ordered a Zoya polish yesterday. Looking forward to trying it and seeing if it is any good.

ChameleonCircuit · 04/04/2013 09:50

I think A-England is 3 free, as is Cult Nails. I love love love A-England's polishes.

IndigoBarbie · 08/04/2013 22:36

Agatha, how's the Zoya???

kingbeat23 · 08/04/2013 22:38

Try nail girls in angel.

AgathaF · 09/04/2013 06:36

Indigo I'm really impressed with the Zoya. Polish chips really quickly on my nails, even with the good ones like OPI and Essie I usually have chips within a day. I put the Zoya on (2 coats and a top coat) on Friday evening and have just touched up a few chips last night. In the meantime I've done normal housy stuff (I'm not very good at remembering rubber gloves), poked around in the pond amongst stones and done lots of typing, so I can't believe how well it has survived all of that.

CaptainKirksNipples · 09/04/2013 06:41

Boots have started doing www.sinfulcolors.com/ which only costs £1.99. Haven't tried it but at that price it would be rude not too! Doesn't have formaldehyde, toluene or dp.

Try Soigne or Little Ondine Both uses natural ingredients.

specialsubject · 11/05/2016 18:38

here's that 'natural' list for Little Ondine.

Polyurethane-35, Acrylic, Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose, Polyvinyl Alcohol, Triethanolamine, Sodium Laureth-12 sulfate, Titanium Dioxide. (May Contain [+/-] Mica, CI 77891, CI12490, CI 13015, CI 27755, CI 69800.)

I wonder where that lot is found in nature?

apparently it doesn't stink and just peels off - so no remover so less waste.

staghunter · 11/05/2016 18:44

Habit cosmetics nail polish is non toxic and very good. Quite hard to find though.
