Stylish prescription sunglasses

Hopefully not an oxymoron.... but where can I get stylish prescription sunglasses? Preferably somewhere I can actually go into the shop, not online only. Any time I have looked, the prescription ones always look a bit frumpy.

Also- is there anywhere which does different colours / tints in the lenses?

I get mine from specsavers and just pick a frame I like and then they will put the tinted lenses into them.

Just buy a pair of normal sunglasses then take them to your optician to have the lenses replaced with tinted prescription ones. I have a pair of raybans I had this done with. Not cheap though.

well, i guess the thing is not all normal sunglasses will be suitable for prescription- I've got quite a thick lens (even when thinned down) so a lot of the normal ones aren't really suitable.

Never been that convinced by specsavers, apart from the pricing! Though willing to pay a decent amount for sunglasses that look good.

I've got Prada prescription sunglasses. Ridiculously expensive a few years ago. I got them from Vision Express a few years ago. Worth every penny

well, that's it- I wouldn't mind paying ££££ as I would keep them for a few years.

Usually nice non-prescription ones have coloured lenses, eg those sort of purpley ones, which have graduated shading. Does anyone know if you can get that sort of tint with prescription sunglasses?

I got huge oversized plastic frames from glasses direct with the graduated tint. Was only about £20 including prescription lenses.

If you buy the sunglasses from the opticians (most opticians have a decent range of normal, i.e. non-prescription, designer sunglasses) you can check with them before buying whether they will be able to put prescription lenses in. Re colours, you can usually choose from a range of colours for tinted lenses but not sure they will be able to to graduated tinting - maybe they will though.

One thing to think of if you've got a high prescription, like me, is that they recommend a smaller lens as that best hides the thickness, in which case oversized may be out. I doubt aviator with thin metal frames would work either. I want to get prescription wayfarers at some point but for the moment I just wear contacts and regular ones.

DH and I both got ours from Boots. DH's are Police ones very similar in shape to the Oakleys he used to wear, the curve actually disguises the thick left lens. The staff were very good at advising on this. Mine are Ted Baker. Need to get eyes tested actually, thanks for the reminder!
