Is long hair more attractive than short?

I have chest length hair and am starting to debate whether to get it cut or not. It's not a massive deal; I've had short hair before. I tend to get bored every 2-3 years and just get it all lopped off into a chin length bob.

So, here I am again. And every time I have this debate with myself I start to think "but is long hair more attractive". I do like the novelty of getting my hair cut, but after a week of everyone admiring it, and feeling all new, well, then I just have short hair, which I will have to blow dry (I never do that now, my hair is poker straight).

So what are your thoughts on long vs short hair? I'm talking bob length btw.

I love both - had very very short hair (about an inch long all over) until last year when I got fed up and I'm now trying to grow it as long as I can!!
Its always nice to have a change though and if you do get bored of it you can always grow it back Smile I say go for it!!!

I don't think either is especially more attractive than the other, I think the only thing that matters is the length suits YOUR face.

I think long hair can be more eye-catching while still looking natural so often it is more attractive. If you have a nice colour, shine and the hair is healthy looking, it probably looks good long. If not, a bob will look better. My personal opinion is that a bob sits better than hair clinging to your back.

Totally depends. Have had both and loved both...but also get bored every couple of years. I have come to the conclusion that I need hair long enough to tie up, as I just cant be arsed to blowdry it every morning and like being able to do different styles on it. Having said that, I get most compliments when its in a short bb.

That probably hasnt helped at all, sorry :-)

I think in general, long hair does look better. Am v Envy that you can grow your hair quickly though, so go for it I you fancy a change.

Maybe you could just have it cut to your shoulders, rather than chin length? It would still be a new do but not as dramatic if you get bored of it after a few weeks! And it may not need as much styling.

The thing is, when my hair is short, because it is so straight I have to style it else it looks really crap. But because my hair is long I don't need to do much, I literally wash and go. Consequently it doesn't often look great. So it is the choice between looking mildly crap most of the time when its long and do nothing, or pretty decent most of the time when it's short unless I can't be bothered with it and it looks really crap!

I'm just bored with it at the moment. A few friends have said they prefer it short. But it is more of a faff.

It's sort of mid to dark brown by the way. Not bad condition but flat and a bit 'hangy'.

I'm not keen on shoulder length. I like the drama of a bob!

If you fancy a change but uncertain, why not go for a colour change?

Handy by-product is increased body if you have fine hair. I went from dark brown to dark blondish with golden highlights & really enjoying the change. My hair is heavily greyed by now (damn you genetics!!) so I'm not finding the upkeep any worse than my (once)natural colour...

maybe you need to try to do some things with the long hair you have. I say this although I am useless at it myself but if you leave it to dry naturally and then do something interesting with it when it is dry, that may be all the change you need. A friend of mine had long straight hair but very thick and she got it feathered below the face on both sides. Not sure if I can explain but cut so that starting below the jaw line it fell in towards her face on either side. I thought that looked fantastic and gave it some swing. But I think you do need thick hair for that effect.

It really depends. I have below shoulder-length hair now, and really like it. but I know that DH prefers short hair.

depends on your hair. I had bra-strap length hair but it looked shite unless I spent an hour doing it. Then I had a pixie cut and it was great (but mine is curly). Currently trying a chin length grow-out but even this might be too long for my particular hair.

If I had my dream hair it would be long, but my own hair looks crap

I have long curly hair with a tendency to frizz, but I still think it is better long overall. It is somehow more luxuriant... I also notice that it seems to go wrong less often - before, a bit of humidityand it was a pain, but now the length seems to over-ride other factors. It takes ages to grow, so that's my line and I am sticking to it!

No to tongs, even if I could get my hair to look like that, it'd it never hold the style. I want it to have natural body which it never does.

Blow drying every day is a pain in the butt.

In the past 4 years I've had a pixie cut, Pob, bob and longish with fringe.
About a month ago I went back to bob.

I hate it, I underestimated how much time blow drying and styling takes and it's just not practical for me with three pre-schoolers. It looks shit now if I don't style EVERY day.
I'm growing it again....

Well, actually I'm contemplating a pixie cut too because it'd be easier than this flipping bob but I know I'd end up growing that out too because you need it cut every 4-5 weeks to maintain.....

It's the person not the cut I think. Personally I look like a twat with long hair. I have very very short hair (currently with a bit of a 'fauxhawk' - apologies for the ridiculous term). When it's longer I feel older and a bit ordinary.

But that's me! I envy people with gorgeous flowing locks. I just never look that good when my hair gets past my ears.
