Navy dress, navy shoes...and?

Right, going to a job interview.

Have bought this dress

With the matching jacket.

I was also thinking navy shoes, or brown or red or pink.

I fancy looking a little bit out of the ordinary (interview is at work) hence thinking about either coloured shoes or tights...or something.

Could I wear light blue tights with navy shoes - would I look odd (I have noooo fashion sense)?

With brown shoes I was thinking cream tights - will I look like I'm in my school uniform?

Red...pink? Ideas?...

Who's the job / what industry?
Could nude heels work instead?

CheckpointCharlie · 20/03/2013 21:48

My first thought was pink shoes, cerise hot kind of pink but YY it depends on what the job is for I suppose! Some cool pink earrings to match the shoes? And/or a collar necklace thing, (dunno the proper name but it is like a collar!)

LeChatRouge · 20/03/2013 21:50

Lovely dress. What style are the navy shoes you have?

Changebagsandgladrags · 20/03/2013 22:09

Thanks

I don't have the navy shoes yet, I was thinking navy court shoes.

I do already have a pair of pink shoes, they are kind of bright, kind of kind of dark. Actually, I think maybe cerise. I never wear them these days because I have nothing to wear them with.

Nude heels would work and look very nice. I would have to be careful with not too dark tights.

Right, so either, match it all up with the pink shoes, or nude or navy in that order.

The interview is public sector doing a variety of things - running training courses, writing policy documents, managing projects and attending some board meetings (not as a member of the board, as a victim/target). I'm quite well known in the organisation, which is why I want to look a bit different.

I'd go for nude, matt, tights and killer heels. Your cerise ones sound as though they'd go well, if not, then how about tan? Also some kind of statement necklace. Can't vouch for quality, but there's a few on this site. Something Marni or Lanvin-esque would be ideal if you can find it.

soaccidentprone · 20/03/2013 22:30

I would wear matching tights and shoes, so if you want to wear your pink shoes try here, or pick tight which are a shade lighter than your shoes.

I would wear this necklace with it too

Fallenangle · 20/03/2013 22:31

I am surprised no one else has asked, what do you know about the panel? In the meantime I'd say nude tights, black shoes with a lowish heel ( but not flat) you need some colour though - maybe a scarf or beads. You need to be memorable, but not just because of your clothes.

Changebagsandgladrags · 20/03/2013 22:31

The pink shoes are closed toe (I cannot do open toe because of having toes like an emu). They are mid to high heel with a thick heel (I cannot do think heels unless I shuffle about on my bum).

Right, I might dig the shoes out tomorrow and see what I think.

What about a scarf, is that a no-no for an interview?

What do I know about the panel? One is my manager's manager and another is their manager. Then a guy from HR that I don't know all that well who I hear is a bit tricky.

I can't stand being interviewed by people I know. So it would be good not be worrying about what I'm wearing...

You'd want to be careful with a scarf that it didn't look a bit air-stewardessy. Am in agreement with nude tights though. Fine to have coloured shoes/necklace, but not tights (unless they are black/navy opaques), particularly if it's a role that involves attending board meetings.

Fallenangle · 21/03/2013 13:25

So two of these are people you that know you reasonably well so you don't need to worry about first impressions. Conservative, sma,rt efficient look. I would say you don't want anyone remembering you for your shoes.

polyhymnia · 21/03/2013 13:31

Navy shoes and either nude tights or, possibly, berry opaques. Not light blue.
Think nude shoes might look a bit odd if weather stays like this.
Definitely an interesting necklace. Id avoid a scarf personally.

Dear all

I ended up wearing nude tights and tan coloured shoes. People did comment on my smartness.

Not sure if I got the job.

Thanks...
