Do you think there's an age (not size) beyond which a woman should not wear a bikini?

bikini for sunbathing only, and unless you look like a supermodel, wrap a sarong over to walk about!

I've got a bikini and I plan to wear it on holiday in 2 weeks, I am 34 and size 12. It doesn't really bother me what other people wear, each to their own, must admit I am self conscious though and only really sunbathe with just a bikini on, would not walk around.

DP always points out people who he finds offensive in bikinis though.

I think women should be able to wear bikinis until their 90s if they want to! The state of most mens nasty old bods on the beach and a lot of young women too. What I don't like is when women in their 50s/60+s go topless but each to their own I say.

crazydazy · 08/05/2006 13:35

Must admit I don't like to see women in bikini's in swimming pools, just doesn't seem appropriate.

UKmum4 · 08/05/2006 13:39

with a name like feistybird i am surprised you are asking!Grin

I say there are bikinis and there are bikinis...if it feels good wear it, if you will be self-conscious don't becuase if your tugging at it and re-arranging it etc it wont look good anyway.

Feistybird · 08/05/2006 13:43

Crazy - yes, will opt for the 'bigger' top in the pool - bra-top for beach only.

I just bought my first age 32 size 12- first year post diet and i thought sod it, why not?? Nobody elses business anyhow is it?

I think you should wear what you like, whatever your age.

Personally I haven't worn a bikini since I was in my 20's but that's because I don't have the body for one - if I did I would, and I'm in my 40's Grin

I'm 38 and wore a bikini on holiday last year.I had lost alot of weight and wanted to wear one again.I don't think I'd wear one in this country(apart from the coldGrin),I think people are more used to seeing all shapes, sizes and ages wearing bikinis abroad.
It's proberbly up to the individual,if your happy to go out in it then wear it Feistybird.

Feistybird · 08/05/2006 15:59

Right the acid test will be DP's reaction when I jump out in front of the telly wearing it.

I think if it looks good on you then age doesn't matter a jot.

Envy of those who can still wear one - my bikini wearing days are over.

onlyjoking9329 · 08/05/2006 16:19

well i have lots of bikinis and do not own a full piece cossie, i am over 40 and a size 12 i feel comfy in a two piece thou a prefer the shorts type bottoms, i don't have a bad tummy given that i had twins, go with what you feel comfy in

QE · 08/05/2006 16:24

Why do people sunbathe with clothes on, on the beach when it is roasting? Get yer kit off if you want an all over tan!

Personally I think I look minging in a bikini and the one I wore on holiday a few years ago only accentuated the very slightly saggy bit of my belly. It looks far better with nothing on and Blu is right - it ceases to matter what age or body size/shape you are when you are wearing nothing at all.

motherinferior · 08/05/2006 16:29

FB, it depends what else is on the telly, doesn't it?

Feistybird · 08/05/2006 18:11

ah yes, just as well Top Gear was on last night....
