What colour under a black suit?

Am off to a "bit of a networking do" tomorrow night with my partner and am wearing a black suit. Would you wear a

(a) pale blue
(b) white
(c) red

top underneath?

white .... definitely white

Red and Black is (to me!) very tacky and tarty cheap looking...

Pale blue would look washed out against black...

I read somehere that black should only be worn with either white, brown or grey... not sure if that is scientific but since I read this I do notice that black can look awful against the other colors..
