Does anyone else have a dp / dh who assesses new clothes purely by their level of tightness?

If I ask dp "does this look nice?" he either says

"Mmm" which I think means he doesn't actually like it (still trying to work this one out)

or

"Yes, very nice. Very tight."

which of course gives you paranioa. Is it too tight?

"No, no. Very nice and tight."

There is the occasional deviation:

"Very nice. Very short" (not so often these days sadly :()

or even once

"Very nice. Looks like underwear."

Shock

Are they all like this or does anyone have a dh who actually makes intelligent and helpful assessments of new clothes?

Just me then

Well could one of you please ask your clothes literate partners if my new shirt looks nice please?

:)

Mine says 'You could split peas through that'...meaning bad material! So not much help then!

gigglinggoblin · 07/05/2006 17:43

i always get 'yes you look fine'. i once asked him to expand on it and he said, 'well for a woman who has had 2 kids you look fine'. ds3 is now almost 2, so it was a considerable length of time ago and it has not yet been forgotten. although i seem to remember once getting 'ooh, thats nice, you can see your nipples through it'. that particular top has not been worn in public

lou33 · 07/05/2006 17:46

mine always used to comment on how tight my clothes were

hated it

LadyTophamHatt · 07/05/2006 17:58

God, if my DH made comments like that I'd purposely wear loose fitting clothes.

Sorry FandZ, but I would be really really pissed off.

It's just vulgar IMO.

pussycatmomma · 07/05/2006 18:28

oh dear, have had to laugh at myself about this thread- when i read title i thought it meant does your dp assess new purchases depending on his level of tightness, meaning how tight he is with money!!!! eg if it was cheaper then tis obviously better! pmsl at myself now. Grin

pussycatmomma · 07/05/2006 18:29

forgot to add, yes, this is my dp! if ever given a choice on new purchases i believe he will always go for lesser price option every time, regardless of it fitting like a glove or more like a tent.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 07/05/2006 18:52

Dh justs asks how much they cost!

He usually pervs over whatever I wear and I hate it.

NotQuiteCockney · 07/05/2006 18:55

Hmm, my DH isn't like this, but is essentially useless re: clothes, anyway. I would find the perving annoying (particularly when entirely out of context), and feel a desire to dress entirely in long baggy things.

motherinferior · 07/05/2006 18:55

Not tightness so much as nork-revealing in the case of my partner, but he is generally along the same unreconstructed lines.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 07/05/2006 18:55

Its a PITA "ummm i can see right down that top" etc ewwwwwww stop being a letch!!!! I am in an anti men mood atm Blush

motherinferior · 07/05/2006 18:57

Oddly enough, despite being a card-carrying feminist I find it faintly reassuring. This is probably because I am now about 108 and am unlikely to garner appreciative comments from anyone else.

Greensleeves · 07/05/2006 18:59

If anyone commented to me that something I was wearing looked tight, I would think they were being kind and advising me to change it for a larger one. Because I am fat. Blush

Pinotmum · 07/05/2006 19:15

Dh and I went for a meal last weekend and I wore a new top from Monsoon and a pair of wide legged trousers. I thought I looked very sophisticated. His comment "you scrub up well don't you" Blush I took that as you look a scruff bag for the rest of your life!

SparklyGothKat · 07/05/2006 19:20

My Dh likes me in tight clothes, so if he say 'oh, those jeans are tight' I know he liking the view ;)

lou33 · 07/05/2006 19:52

i would have liked it , but he was saying it because he would shout at me saying he didnt want other people looking at us when we were out

FrannyandZooey · 07/05/2006 20:24

LOL, if you think this is vulgar... Shock

Erm, I don't find it offensive. Just annoying that he doesn't give any useful feedback on how I actually look. If anyone knows of a course I could send him on :)

crazydazy · 07/05/2006 20:27

Nope my DP doesn't like me in tight clothes either or any cleavage showing tops, if he points out a top in a shop you can guarantee it will be very "ladylike" but then he sneaks a look at women who barely wear clothes...makes me laugh.

Piffle · 07/05/2006 20:49

Mine is a pain in the ass clothes wise, I am large chested and he always pulls out the titty tops that would lok fab on a cup or below.
It is one of his only faults though... Or half cup sexy bra things... [sigh]
I get him back by getting 32 inch trousers inot his changing room when he's really a 34=36 inch waist Grin

notasheep · 07/05/2006 21:05

dp wants me to wear short tight skirts-I am middle agedBlush

lou33 · 07/05/2006 21:27

nothing wrong with that if you have the figure for it notasheep

notasheep · 07/05/2006 22:27

I get a hmmm... most of the time. You can tell if he really likes something because he goes all gushy with "You look nice" Grin
