What does a slim man wear with chinos?

(Title sounds like the opening of a bad joke!)

DH usually wears normal (geeky) t shirts with jeans but has some lovely slim fit chinos (a beige pair and a maroonish pair)

What kind of tops would go with this?

I think polo tops would look good, can be smarter ones or stripey ones.

Dp would wear a band tshirt. If pushed to wear something else, he'd chuck a thin knit jumper over the top.

Sounds good. DH usually favours the slightly baggier tops (especially if long sleeves as his arms are really long) but I'm thinking that'd look a bit silly with skinnier trousers!
