What to wear on your feet with jeans? (when you're over 40)

TomArchersSausage · 15/03/2013 21:16

I don't know what to wear on my feet anymore. Everyone seems to have a different idea of what a mum boot actually is, but the consensus seems to be that whatever it is, it's a baaad thingConfused

So what else? I need something flat. Ballet shoes look too flimsy for this time of year and anyway I feel they look like my dd's shoes.

Loafers maybe? Desert boots (quite like). Or even mum boots..I am a mum after all. Why fight it?Grin

Brothel creepers Wink

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/03/2013 21:19

What kind of jeans?

MummyNoName · 15/03/2013 21:20

Riding boots?
Ugg boots?
Brogues?
Kitten heel?

Depends what you're wearing up top.

Shakey1500 · 15/03/2013 21:20

I either wear my adored but now really scruffy to be fair converse or long black boots.

MrsCosmopilite · 15/03/2013 21:21

Depends on the style of jeans, and the occasion.

If I'm going out then I'll most likely wear a pair of dark jeans and some heels. I also have a pair of tan-coloured boots (not cowboy boots, but just reasonably plain with a low heel) that I wear for more 'active' nights out, like bowling etc.

However, I wear (scruffier) jeans on a daily basis, and usually those are with trainers or with walking boots.

tigerdriverII · 15/03/2013 21:21

Skinny jeans and any boot besides a mum boot, can be flat or a bit of a heel. Cowboy boots.

TomArchersSausage · 15/03/2013 21:23

Um..just jeans. Straightish ones, not skinny.

I don't think I could do the boots tucked into jeans look. I have a suspicion I'd look like Percy Thrower about to do the gardeningBlush

Do Ugg boots not go all soggy in wet weather? They always look like they might to me.

oh god just wear what boots you like - you are 40 you havent had a lobotomy Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/03/2013 21:27

You can only do jeans tucked into boots if the jeans are skinny.
Slightly rolled up with ankle boots or with flipflops or sandals when the weather is warmer.
Ballet flats with skinnies (again when it's warmer).
Converse?
Biker boots?
I like heeled ankle boots with both skinnies and with dark bootcuts/skinny flares.

ggirl · 15/03/2013 21:28

something like these?

Startail · 15/03/2013 21:29

Mum boots, black or brown, long brown boots with jeans touched in, sketchers.

DDs both had converse for their birthdays which means they are out of bounds for mum

TomArchersSausage · 15/03/2013 21:33

I like these except not my size thereSad

Not sure about those. I have Kurt Geiger biker boots.

soaccidentprone · 15/03/2013 21:40

you need a selection of converse.

I'm currently in my suede fur lined ones. when it warms up as bit I'll change to my leather fur lined converse lites, then when it's even warmer I'll dig out my sparkly converseGrin

TomArchersSausage · 15/03/2013 21:47

Thanks for all suggestionsSmile Will keep looking.

I like those sketchers. I am 45 and wear brown or grey suede boots in winter, (jeans tucked in) converse in spring, flip flops/birkenstocks in Summer. Currently after a pair of ankle boots for the winter/spring transition period.

Good quality Jeggings tucked in boots look great!

TomArchersSausage · 15/03/2013 22:06

I like the jeggings/boots suggestionSmile

Wot Remus said.

Over 40? You don't suddenly transmogrify into some ancient elastic-waistbanded Hotter-loafer-wearing granny, y'know.

polyhymnia · 15/03/2013 22:51

Brogues ???
