Summer shoe shopping for a shoephobic

I need a new summer shoe. I am not a shoe person - I tend to go with comfort over style - having said that I don't want to look like a frumpy old woman. I loathe shoe shopping and tend to have 1 or 2 pairs of shoes that I live in for the summer
I'm off to florida at easter - I want a substantial, flat, open toed shoe that is sandally but one I can walk miles in. I have some birkenstocks which I love but they are too flat - if I walk too far in them as my ankles/shins ache so I think I'd need something with a slightly raised heel?
To add the complications I am large of thigh and calf - I tend to find anything with an ankle strap e.g gladiator style looks horrendous. I also have quite wide feet.
If it helps - I live in cropped trousers too avoid showing too much leg.
Please help!!! I feeling like a lost cause..

Hi there. You sound like me! I wore fit flops when we went to Florida, I found that feet were comfortable all day and also they are not flat. Many styles around so worth a look.

Was going to suggest fit flops. They aren't the prettiest things but they are comfy .

Merrell sandals might be worth a look.
They've had good ones in the past, but with all this snow I haven't got round to looking for this summer's sandals yet. Grin

I went to Florida last year pretty much everyone there wears Crocs. They aren't stylish but with their rain storm bursts followed by sun they dry instantly and are comfy for all the walking

I'm off to Florida for Easter too Grin.

I've got some Mayari Birkenstocks which I find very supportive (I can't wear Madrids, as they hurt the tops of my feet too much). Gizehs also good if you don't mind toe posts. I wear them all. the. time in the summer, and every day when in Florida (go most years).

Last summer I also wore Sam Edelman Gigi's (copies from Next), and they were surprisingly comfortable, and a hoping to buy the real thing on my travels this year.

DH and children all wear crocs and adore them. It's a step too far for me, but may well be your perfect ideal!
