50s style Swing Dress for big boobs smallish waist

Hello,
I have my 30th Birthday coming up and I would like to wear a lovely 50s dress with a net petticoat. I have seen some beautiful ones on sites recommended on here but looking at the measurements I don't think I am going to find one to fit.

I have a 43 inch bust, 32inch waist and 41 inch hips. I can make my own clothes ( and often have to for dresses unless I get one from pepperberry) but I would really like a bought one. Any suggestions?

considering your skills I'd go for a dress at a size that'll fit your norks and adjust the waist.

Hell Bunny often have a good amount of stretch in the fabric so you may get away with a smaller size to fit your waist which will stretch to fit around the bust, but the fit tends to vary between styles. Best thing to do is try a couple of sizes and see how they fit Smile

H&R London are a good fit too.. Whereabouts are you? if you're near Manchester I would recommend a trip to Aflecks Palace to try some on in Sohos. Online, Sinderellas Shrine is a good start as the actual measurements will be on the page for each dress.

A second vote for Affleck's Palace if you're near Manchester. Or:

Thanks for the replies, I'm in the midlands so manchester would be a bit of a trek. I think I shall probably buy a bigger one and take the waist in.

Had another thought! My Hell Bunny May Day dress has a belt so you could probably pull in the waist a little with that too if you find a similar style! good luck finding one, but be warned, 50s dresses are addictive! One is never enough Grin

mmm. Hell bunny dresses do have a good bit of stretch but I think there'd just be way too much fabric to gather up with a belt without it looking awful.

In their sizing the OP is halfway between an xxl and xxxl on the bust, they fall a tiny bit big as well as having the stretch but she's only an M on the waist. The xxl would fit nicest on the bust I think but they expect a 38 in waist for that size. Even if the the op were to squeeze her norks into an xl there'd still be acres of extra fabric at the waist and her bust would be flattened unflatteringly.

THere are a few UK etsy sellers who will make this style of dress to order but I can't vouch for the cut or quality of their work.

I see Vivian of Holloway want's a 34 inch waist with a 42 inch bust in their dresses - that could work with a belt. Maybe.

The Whirling Turban dresses have a sort of shirred elastic back, so you don't need a 100% exact measurement match for it to fit - and they can be altered if needed. They're not the cheapest, but they are lovely quality and not comparable with the Vivien of Holloway ones. I think the Viv ones are nice and good for the money (I would buy one, they do look nice on - I've been to the shop and tried them on but didn't buy at the time) but they aren't anywhere near as good quality as the Whirling Turban ones IMO.

The website www.unique-vintage.com has a huge range of this style of dresses and I can vouch for their great customer service. You would have to pay some import duties if you order from there, but they have some really reasonably priced stuff (including the Stop Staring dresses, which I love) so it wouldn't make it silly expensive.
