Red, white & green seem to be this seasons colours from what I have noticed in the shops. Also there are lots of spots & stripes around.
I bought a nice green & white spotty top from Oasis the other week, which I am yet to wear.
Pencil skirts are making a come back too.
Footwear seems to be wedges & espadrilles.
Macs seem to be the in jackets atm.

blueteddy · 05/05/2006 13:03

Oh & big wide belts worn on your waist.

FrannyandZooey · 05/05/2006 13:08

I was wondering if I was the only one left in the country wearing a floaty skirt Blush

I don't care, I was wearing them before they came 'in' and they suit me. Don't you hate it when something you wear year in year out becomes very fashionable, though? Because you know full well next year you will look so out of date.

Nightynight · 05/05/2006 13:18

the slightly overweight mummy look this summer seems to be crumpled cotton tunic top that you think covers your bottom, but doesnt, over tight jeans.
Avoid at all costs!!

blueteddy · 05/05/2006 13:20

Franny, I still wear floaty skirts & they are still being sold in the shops, so you are not out of date!

littlerach · 05/05/2006 13:21

FandZ, I have a couple that I've worn since before they were "in" too Blush

welshmum · 05/05/2006 13:29

Oversized sunglasses
dresses of any sort
lot of nautical stuff around too ie white trousers, stripey top type combo.
Interesting necklines
Small spriggy tops - a bit Liberty print.
Bought one in Top Shop with a square neck and a tie at the waist.
Still seems to be alot of metallic around - especially in shoes but it feels a bit toast to me.

done
gone
finished

ie DH knew that if he stayed out late one more time, he'd be toast
'Don't you take that sunhat off, young lady, or you'll be toast!'

OK, I'll do the cropped jeans (already have a pair..) but as for the rest...nah Grin

Today I am wearing my standard summer gear of linen wide legged trousers, vest top and sandals. I just vary the colours - black today.

Tutter · 05/05/2006 17:55

thought i should add that cropped jeans are apparently flying out of the shops - went to gap to get some and they had 2 pairs (a 6 and a 14) left. so - call them and find out when deliveries are due!

FrannyandZooey · 05/05/2006 17:57

Well I went through town today and can reveal that the hot look in Essex this summer is:

Jeans of varying degrees of hideousness, teamed with a top that is too tight and too small to cover your flabby bits.

So, same as last year then.

beetroot · 05/05/2006 18:00

blueteddy I tried that top on! They have a similar one in warehouse!

I need to go to London to do some summer shopping,

Socci · 05/05/2006 18:13

warehouse seems to have a good selection of cropped jeans atm.

hoxtonchick · 05/05/2006 18:14

oh good, can carry on wearing my rather old cropped jeans!

PinkKerPlink · 05/05/2006 18:14

underwear, shoes, trousers, skirts and tops
HTH:)

blueteddy · 05/05/2006 18:34

They looked like they had some nice bits in warehouse when I nipped in there on Saturday. I didn't have a proper look though, as I had the distraction of DS2!
I bought some wide leg cropped jeans from french connection a couple of months back, put them somewhere in the depths of my wardrobe & now can't find them!Angry
Beetroot, have your FCUK bits come yet?

Socci · 05/05/2006 18:37

Don't people wear cropped jeans every summer anyway?

I like wedges - they don't kill your feet. I bought \link{http://www.schuhstore.co.uk/zoom2.asp?i_code=www.schuhstore.co.uk/images/product/1102443520_lg.jpg\these} in red but I think I will have to take them back as they are too wide for me Sad

blueteddy · 05/05/2006 18:45

They are nice, socci. Where did you get them from?

Socci · 05/05/2006 18:55

I saw those ones on Schuh but I wanted red so I looked on the internet. They seem to come up very large though - usually I take a 4 but think I would need a 3. They would probably still be too wide for me though.

GDG · 05/05/2006 19:06

ARe they Fly ones Socci - I ordered some very similar to that and they were like boats - most upset as they were lovely too!

OP posts:
cod · 05/05/2006 19:09

think cropped trews are shorter ( just on knee) and slimmer htis year
but i may be wrong

Socci · 05/05/2006 19:17

I think you're right cod. The question is, do cropped on the knee look more flattering than calf length (because I don't think calf length looks good personally).

GDG - yes they are Fly. They seem huge and on my feet it's never going to work. If they didn't have an ankle strap they would just fall off when I walk!

Pollyanna · 05/05/2006 19:20

I always remember Trinny and Susannah saying that cropped trousers make your legs look shorter and should be avoided. They certainly don't do much for mine - I would love to find some flattering long shorts.

Also what shoes do you wear with cropped trousers? Birkenstocks? (these make me look even more short-legged, but wedges aren't practical for the playground really...).
