OMG! - a daily mail photographer is coming to take a photo of me and my family tommorow for an article about parenting in your 20's - the journo told me to dress smart, summery and no black or white! All my vaguely smart clothes are black, there are no shops around and I dont know what the hell to do! {panicked emoticon]

Any friends or family your size nearby?

schneebly · 05/05/2006 09:00

no - I am bigger than everyone! I am going to end up looking like a tinker!

I have a couple of 'floaty' tops and peasant type skirts (out of fashion I know!) but am thinking it might be too hippy! I have put on weight and as such have refused to buy myself any new clothes until I lose some - dont know what to do.

jeans?

beetroot · 05/05/2006 09:14

try to get photographer to take you how YOU want, so you coudl be hdidng bits of you..so just showing yor top half for example.

dublindee · 05/05/2006 09:14

eek - sorry schneebly. Em, Floaty tops can be good. Have you any brown trousers or parallels? They can be really slimming and brown is not black - but still dark enough to be flattering!

MamaG · 05/05/2006 09:17

jeans and floaty top - tell tem you want a child on your knee and to be taken from waist up!

schneebly · 05/05/2006 09:19

I have quite a nice pair of burgundy cords? Would they be okay? I would prefer waist up - will they do that?

linen trousers and floaty top. do you have bingo wings? they are magnified about 50 times by the camera. go for a kaftany top if so.

OR, linen trousers and a 3/4 length sleeve top in a light fabric - like a tshirt, for example.

beetroot · 05/05/2006 09:22

tell you want this...don't let them bully you

schneebly · 05/05/2006 09:23

Dont have any linen trousers expat (shame)! I actually have fery few clothes that fit at the moment Sad

MamaG · 05/05/2006 09:25

Burgundy cords would be fine, I think, with a nice top. Agree you should cover up bingo wings if you have them as otherwise the pic will haunt you! If you feel happy and comfortable in burgundy cords and a floaty top then chances are you'll look fine. Better that, then sitting there looking like you've got a poker up your bum becuase you're wearing something you're not comfy in!

Damn right, tell him how you want pic to be taken

schneebly · 05/05/2006 09:30

Thanks! Think I will go with the cords and floaty top (will choose one that hides bingo wings!) I think I do need to feel comfortable. I am now worried about what to do with my hair - it hasnt been cut for over a year Blush I think I will need to wear it up!

OP posts:
schneebly · 05/05/2006 09:31

You can tell I haven't been paying much attention to the way I look lately! Blush

MamaG · 05/05/2006 09:33

I do the same as you - put weight on then live in the same 2 or 3 t shirts with jeans, just becuase I refuse to buy any more clothes given that I've got loads of lovely clothes - only 1 or 2 sizes too small!

I don't think we'll be the only ones love :)

schneebly · 05/05/2006 09:33

Smile You are a nice lady!

OP posts:
MamaG · 05/05/2006 09:33

oh bloody hell - where do you live? I'll come and cut it for you!!!

schneebly · 05/05/2006 09:35

You might have a bit to travel - I am in Kintyre on the west coast of scotland! Miles from anywhere!

OP posts:
MamaG · 05/05/2006 09:38

hee hee, not sure where Kintyre is but I went to Oban on my honeymoon Grin

DH wants to move up there, so I might be picking your brains in a few months!

Just make sure your hair is clean! Straighteners alwasy disguise when my hair is in need of a trim, would that work for you??

schneebly · 05/05/2006 09:41

Oban is only about 2 hours north of here - we often go there for a day out! It is lovely here - where are you at the moment? I may try the straighteners or maybe get my SIL round - she used to be a hairdressing student!

OP posts:
MamaG · 05/05/2006 09:43

I'm in Cumbria now, so I bet its not THAT far from you - we live about 40 minutes south of Carlisle.

I can't actually cut hair BTW Grin unless you count me taking the clippers to DS's head - maybe not the look you are looking for!

I once asked DH to trim my hair (in desparation) and it looked a bugger so be careful!

schneebly · 05/05/2006 09:46

cumbria is nice - your are probably 4.5 hours away (at a compete guess!) If i get SIL round I wont let her cut it but maybe style it for me. I cant believe I am doing this!

OP posts:
MamaG · 06/05/2006 17:36

How did you get on and what did you wear in the end? :)

schneebly · 07/05/2006 19:47

I got on okay mamaG - I wore the burgundy cords and gave the photographer a choice of 3 tops I was comfortable in - he chose a scoop neck lilac sweater with cut out detail and he made DH tuck his shirt in! Grin He took over 300 photos in 3 locations Shock and I look really fat in all of them! I am hoping The Daily Mail might feel sorry for me and do a bit of air brushing! GrinWink I dont know yet when it will be in the paper but the journo said she would contact me. Shitting myself now about the article - I hope they dont pick a hideous photo and I hope I dont sound like an eejit!

MamaG · 08/05/2006 19:09

Oh I'm sure you'll be fine. Let us know when you're in!
