... when you're a SAHM who won't see anybody all day other than the same mums at the school gates/toddler group?

Currently 35 weeks pregnant, so not really in the mood anyway, but for afterwards I would like some inspiration as I often don't bother.

I don't bother. I look clean and tidy. Then they notice when I put a bit of slap on..

lou33 · 04/05/2006 20:38

makes me feel better psychologically

FrannyandZooey · 04/05/2006 20:39

Ah, there is only a point if it makes yourself feel good. What is the point of it in any situation? I find it insulting actually, when people say "Well I can't be bothered to put on nice clothes just to go to a toddler group", implying that other mothers are not worth trying to look nice for, whereas if there were some men or other important people around, well then....

starlover · 04/05/2006 20:39

makes you feel better!

i've been a total slob since ds was born and the other day i got some old clothes out and put them on and i felt soooooo much better! like the old me that i haven't seen since before i was pregnant

morningpaper · 04/05/2006 20:44

Makes me feel like an attractive person, rather than a functioning pair of breasts with cleaning skills.

lou33 · 04/05/2006 20:52

at least you have breasts and cleaning skills Sad

shazronnie · 04/05/2006 21:26

putting some slap on is 10 minutes doing something for me, and me only, and also I don't want anyone to accidentally mistake me for Waynetta Slob on an off day.

ScummyMummy · 04/05/2006 21:36

Envy @ your cleaning skills, mp. I usually make an effort, when I do, for myself as much as anyone else, tbh, emkana.:)

WWWontSlagOffAnyone · 04/05/2006 21:43

Well, I didn't work for a while recently and didn't wear any make up most days or make any effort. After a few weeks I put some make up on and went 'OMG! I look SO MUCH BETTER! That's why I usually wear it!' I like not feeling horrified when I look in the mirror.

lovecloud · 04/05/2006 21:44

to make yourself feel good

look good... feel good

expatinscotland · 04/05/2006 21:44

Fun and makes me feel better.

JonesTheSteam · 05/05/2006 08:24

When I make the effort I do feel much better, and probably look better as well.

brimfull · 05/05/2006 08:29

Makes you feel better ,try it it really works!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 05/05/2006 08:32

I will say that the last few mornings I have got up, showered and dressed at the same time as DH (7am) and it has really set me up for the day.... I would usually have slobbed about until kids were fed etc, but it has made such a difference. I wouldnt say I put on slap, but taking the time to straighten my hair and make myself presentable has really worked! Im actually dressed by 7.30am which I NEVER was before!

Tortington · 05/05/2006 08:38

i have to know what i am wearing the next day - to want to get out of bed. i can't stand the thought of ploughing through clothes, trying to find a clean bra, a pair of shoes. I am not a morning person - so i have to know what i am doing the night before or i will stay in bed and procrastinate, get up late and the whole days fcked then.

whereas today. - last night sorted out what i was wearing - found one shoe - but kinda had an inckling where the other was.

got up the shoe was where i thought it was, ironed stuff got dressed hey presto 7.40 all done. an hour later 2nd cup of coffee and i am ready to do battle ( or secretly cry in the toilet, whichever comes first)

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 05/05/2006 08:40

lol custardo!

I know the feeling of ready for battle or cry in the toilet! And thats jsut with being a SAHM!

SleepyJess · 05/05/2006 08:44

Gives me a bit of confidence.. a bit like a mask with which I can face the world more bravely. Don't care what a psychologist would make of that.. it works for me! :) And why would I want to look like a minger when I can look fairly presentable if I choose?

Bugsy2 · 05/05/2006 09:38

I don't see it as doing myself up, but making the best of what I've got. Tiny bit of blusher, quick flick with the mascara brush & one of those all day lippies & I look nicer. Takes me less than 5 mins to do my everyday makeup & makes me feel 50 times better.

cod · 05/05/2006 10:50

emkana because thats oyur life!
you must do it
or else you will spend your life waiting for somehtign!

morningpaper · 05/05/2006 12:28

On days I am working, I always dress for the office even though I work from home and the only person who sees me is the postman. :)

blueteddy · 05/05/2006 12:47

It does make you feel better about yourself.
I don't always wear make up, but I do make an effort with my hair & clothes.
A couple of months after DS2 was born I went on a huge shopping spree & bought myself loads of clothes, a lot of which were going out type clothes (think I was kidding myself that I would have a social life again!), just to make me feel better. I wanted to remind myself that I could still wear nice clothes etc & wasn't just a mother of 2! Does that make any sense?
It made me feel loads better!

foxinsocks · 05/05/2006 12:52

it will definitely make you feel better emkana

if you can't bear to have your hair done in one of those dreadful salons, find someone to come to you and do it (there are normally loads in yellow pages or post office adverts)

you're having a rough time at the moment, you deserve a bit of pampering
