What to wear on a night out?

I'm lost! It's so long since I've had a night out I've forgotten what I wear and nothing in my wardrobe seems right.

Me and dh are going out for a friends 40th next month. Loads of our mates that we haven't seen for ages (due to relocating) will be there so am really looking forward to it. :)

What do you wear on a night out?

Fwiw I'm 31, short, pixie cut hair and fairly slim (on a good day). :)

Is it a 'dress' occasion or more jeans and a nice top

I'm not entirely sure tbh. It's at a bar (I've not been to) so probably could go with jeans and nice top or a dress as long as frock wasn't too glam.

how about say black skinny jeans (or even leather look type?) with a nice top - or you could go for skirt and top with ankle boots? Or maybe a jersey dress which you can dress up - topshop has some. Perhaps take a look at oasis/warehouse as well if you like that sort of thing?
