Have lost some weight and now don't know how to dress

Ive lost a stone over the past year which I'm really pleased about, but now haven't a clue how to dress. Nothing in my wardrobe fits; every day I look a mess. My clothes ar e too big and when I try to buy new ones I buy ones that are somehow not right - too big, baggy, not suitable for my new shape. So can you guide me towards some new clothes?

I'm 50, 5ft 10ins and 10st which seems to make me a size 10 in Next and M and S, not that I've found anything that looks good in there. I'm thin on top but still rather thick of thigh. I've got dark hair and palish skin. Was told to wear bright reds, oranges, greens etc when I had my colours done ages ago. I need to dress smart casual for work, don't like my legs so always cover them, but want to look gorgeous Smile

Hi Alison. Well done on the weight loss. You don't mention budget but why don't you try some well cut jersey dresses? They can look polished but not too overdone. The right material will accentuate your figure without clinging on the bumps (not saying you have them now!). Have a look here: www.isabellaoliver.com/baukjen/uk/600/dresses.html;jsessionid=9B12AB7B43DB502A4B41A1306422F8B3?viewall=true

This is just for starters. I'm sure the other ladies will be around soon with some lovely ideas.

Hi Alison I started a similar thread recently - I've lost 3 stone in the last year (started off a bit heavier than you, and am shorter!), all my clothes are too big now and I don't have a clue where to start shopping for clothes for the new me.

One thing I was advised to do was to look on Pinterest for ideas on what styles I like, which I did. Then on another thread several lovely Mumsnetters showed me their Pinterest boards and I stole more ideas from them, and I have just ordered a couple of new size 10 dresses based on what I have realised my "likes" are.

If it's any help to you here is my pinterest board, it's free and simple to join and you can then just start putting your own ideas together Smile

How about a personal shopper OP? House of Fraser and John Lewis both offer a free service and they are really good (and no pressure to buy)

Hope you don't mind me lurking for tips.. I've lost a lot of weight and don't know who I am anymore either

Personal shopping all the way! Lots of trashy celeb magazines for research - make a look board of the celebs whose style you like!
Oh and you may need new shoes/hair cut/colour etc to show off your new wardrobe. X

I'm in a similar situation. Although still have a long way to go on the weight loss. I have lost 2.5 stone and am still losing. Still a way to go. I went shopping the other day and really struggled. Am much older than I was last time I was even this weight! I have a few things to keep me going but am planning a session with a John Lewis personal shopper when I have lost some more.

I was a size 24 but am now an 18-20 depending on the brand. At size 24 you tend to just buy what you can rather than what you like as there is not so much choice. I'm desperate to get to a 16.

Totally agrree with CareerGirl! You need to find styles you like, definitely have a search through the online shops and see whats out there.

I started out as a size 18 and am now size 8-10, and had the same dilemma but it feels great being able to pick clothes I like rather than what happens to fit me.

You put all that hard work in, so now you get to reap the rewards! Treat yourself to a whole new look!
