HELP - my haircut looks like a basin cut

HELP what can i do to make my new haircut look less like a basin cut or a helmet??

I am trying to grow out layers and had a sort two tier layered looked a bit like kate silverton but longer (optimistically speaking) My hair is thick and wavy? kinky

So like an idiot i went to a hairdressers and told him i wanted to aim for a classic bob - NOT an inverted bob or a heavily layered bob and i wanted it all one length at the bottom so that i could start to grow it into a classic bob shape

What i got is an inverted bob and quite short too, just below my ears- the hairdresser said he had to go short to get the two tiered effect out (a case of 3 step back to go 2 steps forward IYSWIM)

I have a short full fringe and the whole ensemble makes me look like a monk without the bald spot :)

Does anyone have any ideas what i can do to make it look less helmet like or monk like and keep growing it - i have been trying to clip my fringe over to the side to take away the rectangular effect

Blow dry with some product and finishing wax to make it a bit more piecey? Growing out hair is a total pain.

Thanks Iatemy I will have a go with wax etc. I suppose I've got to be patient while it grows out. Do you think I should clip my fringe off my forehead til it grows?

brush or pin fringe to the side? ALso, could you go back and get him to chop into it a bit to make it look less solid? He should do it for free if you're not happy with it.

cardinal I could try to but I found him to be quite inflexible in that he didn't really listen and do what I wanted, like he over ruled me on not wanting an inverted bob. He did however, give me a valuable piece of info as in the whereabouts of the stylist I used to go to at this salon who has moved on, so I'm going to go and see her next time I'm in town

clips and hairbands. Boots do some lovely hairbands that don't look child like. Im growing mine out too and it's a nightmare. Once ur fringe gets longer, try sweeping it over to one side and do lots of tucking behind your ears Smile

Thanks Wannabe i'm gong to get some hairbands from boots. Its not quite long enough to stay behind my ears just yet, the hairband might help - i quite like the elastic type ones favoured by some of our longer haired footballers :)

Another vote for clips and bands - will take the bowl shape out of it and give it an edgy look while it's growing out. Sodding hairdresser!
