Summoning all short ladies - summer footwear

I know it's a bit premature but I want to start getting some ideas. What do you petite ladies wear when you put your boots awayas the weather gets better? I cannot wear flats because they make me feel frumpy. I mean, I don't even like wearing slippers at home! Heals however, I find uncomfortable plus I want some casual looks mainly. So that leaves me with wedges. 'Plungey' wedges are no good because they're not comfortable to walk in. Best ones are the ones with a bit of platform, but just a bit too much platform and feet look clunky. I want to look chic. How can I???? To make matters worse I have wide feet. I mean, is there any hope?Confused

Really I would have thought an ankle strap would cut you leg and therefore make your legs look shorter.

MrsCampbellBlack · 26/02/2013 20:06

Ankle strap ok under skinnies I find.

M&S do good sandals generally

motherinferior · 26/02/2013 20:08

I wear flat shoes all the year round. I am five foot nothing.

GeorginaWorsley · 26/02/2013 20:14

I wear low wedges if Ican find them.
I do wear flip flops and ballet pumps, but need a bit of height with knee length dresses.
Clarks do lower wedges that are comfortable,as do Marks and Boden ,obv these more expensive.

I wear Hush Puppy Sandals - usually wedges or mules, some have a strap. They're really comfortable & give me height too ( am a 5 foot midget!).

Debenhams, Frasers etc usually sell them. They're much more stylish now than in years gone by.

MrsCampbellBlack · 26/02/2013 20:18

Again depending on budget but Michael Kors do great peep toe wedges in ponyskin which I wore a lot last summer.

But I bought them on the outnet for a lot less than their usual price.

One good thing about small feet is there's normally a lot left in the sales. Dune also good for sandals.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/02/2013 20:22

I like ankle straps but I do have skinny ankles.

I like sandals with a small wooden heel or a wedge, or I wear flat ones. Everybody knows I'm a short-arse, so it's not like I'll fool anybody by wearing heels, summer or winter!

prettyanddainty · 26/02/2013 20:58

Well I'm really short (4'11), I also find it hard to find good foot wear for summer. I read somewhere that if you're short, you should avoid ankle straps on heels, it kinda makes you appear short and dumpy, the article said to keep your heel and ankle free.

toastedteacake · 26/02/2013 22:14

I don't understand the concept of ankle straps making you appear short and dumpy only applying to short people.

Surely if you are in proportion it makes no difference?

Whereas an average height person with short legs wearing ankle straps may well look odd and add to the impression of not being in proportion.

Just because you're short in height it doesn't mean you have short chubby legs!

TheBeanAndTheBee · 26/02/2013 23:24

Have you tried castaner wedges? Very comfortable wedges, not too high.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/02/2013 17:08

I actually have quite long, slim legs considering my height and general curviness! :)

Thisisaeuphemism · 27/02/2013 17:19

I have this problem too! I'm always looking for something comfortable and casual but with height.

As someone said, fly sandals are great. I'll enjoy looking up the other stuff.

There's no way I could wear anything with an ankle strap - disaster for me/the heavy/short legged.

EarlyInTheMorning · 27/02/2013 17:24

Fly wedges seem to be winning the race

Fly yossa seemed a bit loose on me (narrow feet) but not quite as attractive as the yoda sandals. Let us know which you decide on !

MrsCampbellBlack · 27/02/2013 18:43

Fly wedges are a certain style - they wouldn't work for me but I know they're very popular on here.

Agree castaner lovely too. I also got some from boden a few years back which are great.

TheBeanAndTheBee · 27/02/2013 20:44

And just to say even castaners with ankle straps are surprisingly flattering for those of us blessed with less than fabulous legs. The strap is quite loose and low, so doesn't cut the length of your leg in the same way that ankle straps normally do.
