Prices at The White Company

Does anyone else notice that the prices have shot up- again?

It looks as if you can't buy a jumper for much less than £100. I do like some of their knitwear but the prices are becoming crazy- and even with their rare 20% off still expensive.

Agree with this, and have found the quality to be variable. Bedding has been excellent, but towels have holes in after a year (how??) and jersey dresses have bobbled hideously.

Even their bedding is suspect now. Buttons falling off, seams coming apart.

The children's clothes at outlet prices are ok but that is my only buy with WC over last year or so.

Shame, they used to be so good.

I like the palette and some of the shapes they use but I agree that the quality of the clothes is poor and overpriced. There is room in the market for really high quality separates in a neutral palette that are a bit creative in cut but this company doesn't deliver that.

Yes they've gone really crazy with the prices, a bit like Boden. Even with the usual discounts they're still overpriced. Shame because I do like their clothes.

I wouldn't buy anything there now - quality dreadful on everything.

I don't use them anymore due to;

All my dressing gowns shrinking, took me 4 to realise they were just rubbish.
My sheets going to rags in under 3 years (that's £70 I'm not seeing again)
Bathmat wonky. Had to send it back.
Buttons come off the duvet
Duvet labelled wrongly, bought corresponding size sheets, washed ironed and put them on. Too big. Phoned customer service to be told washed sheets can't be returned (won that one though).
Square pillow too small for the covers supplied.

I call them the shite company now, and I try to warn other mnetters from making expensive mistakes. Their customer services is also beyond patronising, "no, we don't make a 13.5 tog duvet". I was looking at it at the time saying, really, you did make this.

I like their dresses and have four but all bar one were bought in the sale. I think they are worth 40 to 50 pounds, as that's pretty much what a crappy M&S or Zara dress would cost. Mine haven't bobbled.

I've never bought bedding or anything else there though (too expensive even at sale prices!).

Completely agree. Used to buy quite a few jumpers, cardys linen wrap/tshirt tops for summer as well as candles & now I am only buying candles & that is with Red discount code or similar. When I was last in a store I thought the quality had really gone down & all a bit samey. Think they have lost the plot a bit.

Got an email from them announcing their new clothing collection. Very underwhelmed. Hmm Perhaps they're nicer in RL/ laptop.Viewed on iphone.
And expensive. Over 100 euro for a jersey dress!!

Agree. New stuff doesn't appeal. Also a lot of viscose rather than cotton.

Really disappointed in quality of children's pjs too - bobbly within a few weeks.

I was quite surprised by the shit quality of the viscose dresses when I went to a store recently to try them on. Thin fabric, shows every bump and creases easily. Pity as I had always seen them as an aspirational brand for quality basics. I was hoping for heavier jersey fabrics as I love the silhouettes.

I love thier dresses, buy them full price and in the sale, I have a few winter and summer ones. Some casual and some more dressy.

Mine haven't bobbled and I find the jersey good quality, they hang or drape so much better than any of my other jersey dresses.

I find the styles good for me. I'm quite slim but with large boobs and slightly wobbly tummy. They show off my bust, bit of cleavage, but hide my stomach.

They are over priced, and another company I'm sure could provide the same for cheaper, but until they do their product appeals to me.

I haven't got thier bedding but was thinking about splashing out, as the dresses have been so good.

Have a discount shop here and got 2 jersey dresses in the sale for £40 each. they haven't bobbled, but they seem to have shrunk a bit (washed at 30 degrees).

Went in today after this thread and the email about their new range.

All over-priced tat - and how much viscose. Seriously if I want a viscose scarf I'll buy one in primark for £5 not in the white co for £45.

Did take a look at the navy jersey biker jacket as had thought it looked nice online - well I've seen thicker t shirts in h&m - seriously it war rag like.

Honestly I walked past it twice as from the side view I assumed it was a lightweight t shirt.

I find their styles 'patronising' if clothes can be!

The dresses are cut to flatter women with a tummy, though the lack of sleeves is an issue because usually tummies and wobbly upper arms go hand in hand.

The jumpers are okay but again very voluminous- no good if you want to show off your figure.

Summer dresses all tend to be tent-like or smocks.

I'd say their demograph is women aged 45+ who have a household income of over £100K , or certainly higher tax brackets, who live in the Home Counties.

Having said that I do buy the occasional item but they are getting to be beyond my price range- I'd rather try Jigsaw or Whistles for those prices.

You are right missbopeep - assistant told me their clothes are 'for women of a certain age' after I moaned that it was all so shapeless.

I did buy a bit from there when I was pregnant/post-pregnancy as this was the only time their clothes really flattered me.

Still do like the candles though Smile

I do like the White Company for bedding but only buy when they are on sale and I have a discount code. I would never buy clothes from there as I think they are pricey.

They list me when the candles jumped up from 15 to 20 quid.

15 was a nice price to give as a thank you present or treat myself. I bought one a month at that price easily.

Now I've switched to Zara home and JL, which is a shame.
