wardrobe cataloguing - waste of time or billiant idea?

I've recently been creating a pintrest board of styles / colours I like. I've got some ideas of outfits stuck on the inside of my wardrobe for inspiration and I'm now wondering if I should go one further and go through every item of clothing I own, mixing and matching items, photographing them and sort of cataloguing outfits?

Do you think it would be a total waste of time? I'm wondering if it would give me new inspiration of things I could wear together and also help me establish which items in my wardrobe really are total crap never to be worn again. I think it would be quite a large investment of time to go through it all!

It's definitely worthwhile if you can be bothered to do it! It's a good way of highlighting which things will never work in your wardrobe.

Don't know if this is any help but I really love this blog puttingmetogether which is all about making all the items in your wardrobe work together in different ways. She uses a site called Go Chic or Go Home which allows you to upload photo's of your clothes/outfits and both reminds you of what you've got and also makes suggestions for you.

Jimmy thanks - I've joined that go chic or go home website so better set about uploading pictures of all my clothes! Does it really put outfits together for you???? Have you used it yourself?

Isn't Polyvore meant for putting the outfits together? Do I have that wrong? Pinterest is only any good for showing individual items.

There is another app that does it I saw on another thread style something or other.

I was thinking the same thing this morning, I wondered if I photographed things together and with accessories etc it might push me to try different combinations of the things already in my wardrobe, and discover some new outfits without spending money

@sweetheart - The site doesn't actually make recommendations for you. That being said, a feature along those lines is definitely on our long-term roadmap. The idea behind GCOGH is to help members maximize what they actually own so my husband (the computer wizard) and I took the everyday process of getting dressed and virtualized it. Everything from sharing advice to finding inspiration and remixing outfits. The cool thing is a number of members have commented that their wardrobe feels twice as big now that their clothes are out of the drawers and on one screen. Since wardrobe organization is chicken soup for the soul (at least for Type A people like me) we've built in quite a few tools to help with that. All of the items in your GCOGH closet are organized by type, color, and tags (dressy, business, fall, summer) and you can filter by those terms. Also, if you click on a pair of boots in your closet you can see every ensemble you've made with them right there on the photo which is a huge timesaver. You can also remix a bunch of ensembles for work and then simply add the word "work" to the notes. This allows you to get up on Monday and quickly filter to all of your work outfits. Some members use their inspiration boards to create capsule wardrobes for post-pregnancy transitions, traveling, etc. I could talk about organization for days so I'll stop there. Even with all of the features, I have to say that the women who make up the community are what make it special. They're super supportive and kind. Anyway, hopefully that unnecessarily long answer gives you a better sense of what GCOGH is.
