i accidentally caught a bit of This Morning one day last week where a diamond expert was on the show.

he said to get your diamonds gleaming drop them in a bit of vodka for half an hour.

well i just poured half a shot into a glass and dropped my very grubby diamond rings into it - (i own 3 but wear them all the time - they are not flash!)

and i can confirm this works. well.

my diamonds are lovely and sparkly again! just thought id share for the greater good!

AnnoyingOrange · 20/02/2013 21:30

vodka according to the big diamond expert on the telly showing off some very very flashy sparklies!

it worked anyway!

I use washing up liquid and a toothbrush

ujjayi · 20/02/2013 21:39

I throw mine out and replace with new. I have better things to do with vodka and/or gin.

ThatVikRinA22 · 20/02/2013 21:40

give the vodka a try.
they are sparkling. more so than with toothbrush and wash up liquid - thats what i used to do!

but vodka wins. (and what an excuse to buy it! dont forget the coke!!)

AnyFucker you made me snort my tea outGrin

Curtsey · 20/02/2013 21:45

ooh good tip! What about other gemstones, though, I wonder. My engagement ring is an emerald flanked by 2 diamonds. Emeralds are much less SHINY than diamonds, not as hard-wearing. Wouldn't want the vodka to kill my pretty emerald.

scarlettsmummy2 · 20/02/2013 21:49

Have just popped mine in. Fingers crossed!

AnyFucker · 20/02/2013 21:57

You got some diamonds to send me, my pretty novice ?

BrandyAlexander · 20/02/2013 21:59

Snort again! No my lovely, I am a bit partial to themGrin

ThatVikRinA22 · 20/02/2013 22:01

leave them in for about 30 mins at least folks.....then dry on a soft cloth
then drink the vodka

Trumpton · 20/02/2013 22:01

Gin and a toothbrush ...then drink the grubby gin ( like a dirty martini ? ) Grin

Trumpton · 20/02/2013 22:01

Ooh Vicar ! Crossed posts !

ThatVikRinA22 · 20/02/2013 22:03

toastandmarmiterocks · 20/02/2013 22:06

Be careful with emeralds. They are really soft and can damage easily. Diamonds are hardcore and can handle their booze

boodles · 20/02/2013 22:08

I only have Bacardi

ThatVikRinA22 · 20/02/2013 22:08

like me toast Grin

Bluelightsandsirens · 20/02/2013 22:11

I wil give this a try with my engagement ring once I have had the diamond re set after loosing it yesterday - found it in the bottom of my handbag, how's that for a lucky day?!

ThatVikRinA22 · 20/02/2013 22:13

very lucky blue! i am currently admiring my sparkly diamonds....i had vodka left over from xmas so its fortuitous that the diamond blokey on this morning recommended voddy as the cleaner of choice!

OP posts:
Goober · 20/02/2013 22:14

I have vodka but no way am I going to waste it on such filth.
Much rather carry last months dead skin cells on my rings than part with the good stuff.
Don't be so silly.

Trumpton · 20/02/2013 22:30

bluelightsandsirens my engagement ring came down the family from DH's grandmother . I lost a diamond from it on 3 separate occasions and found them each time ( one in the road , one at a big dance festival and one at an airport !) I had the ring remade as the jeweller said it was getting a bit (!) fragile after 100 years .

nancerama · 20/02/2013 22:32

I've been doing it all wrong. I've been wasting gin :(
