Fellow redheads - Where do you get your fashion ideas?

I'm trying to update my wardrobe and it occured to me that even now (nearly 30), I still struggle to find clothing that suits me as a natural redhead. Flicking through magazines doesn't help as the vast majority of models are brunette/blond, I have no fellow redheaded friends or family, and there even seems to be a lack of redhead fashion blogs (I've found one or two but they're American so can't buy the clothing here). There's a few famous celeb redheads but can't afford what they wear on my budget!

Fashion for redheads just seems to be a bit hit and miss so I'm now wondering if I'm missing something - where do all my fellow redheads go to for their fashion ideas? Smile

Try the blog Forever Amber, she's a redhead :)

Ooh thanks ginger, just had a look - isn't she beautiful!

Is this a problem I'm imagining then? Maybe I'm just bad at knowing what looks good on me! So many times I've seen something nice on someone else but it just doesn't suit me! argh.

This one is good too: intotheredblog.wordpress.com/ and this one is beauty based: www.hey-dollface.com/ and mother fashion one: nadiaesra.blogspot.co.uk/

Have you tried Pinterest? It's great for looking at styles, pictures, etc you can create your own mood / style boards.

I think it's half and half I think: partly confidence (as with everything) and I think to some extent having the confidence to "stand out" and then more specific redheads things: colours to wear, make up etc...

I love it though! Joan from Madmen and Florence are my style icons Wink

What kind of stuff do you feel looks different on you and why? Just interested, I'm sure you look gorgeous!

ScottyDoc · 15/02/2013 18:43

I think reheads are stunning. I envy you being able to effortlessly pull off shades of green/blue/peacock and deep purples. Statement earrings in those colours for redheads looks gorgeous, as does flawless makeup with a slight blush tone. That kind of skin only needs the lightest cover up and I think you age better than most. Can you tell I'm a little envious Grin oh yes, and a touch of eyeshadow on green/blue eyes in rusty/mossy shades. Grey eyes need a bit of metallic.

NobbyClark · 15/02/2013 18:46

I went to a lady who does your colours, she was a bit bonkers and I am not strictly a natural red but have been for twenty years so feels like it...
I wear turquoise, red, post box red, orange and brown as well as whatever the hell I have in the wardrobe.

Having your colours down really is accurate and changed how I buy clothes!

ScentedNappyHag · 15/02/2013 19:17

I'm not a natural redhead, but with my colouring, I should be Smile
I wear a lot of navy, petrol, bright blue, greens and burgundy, and accessorise with white, red and tan.

sarlat · 15/02/2013 20:58

I can advise about blue eyed red heads.....

Try jade and deep green, petrol blue, peacock blue, black, aubergine.

Avoid white, brown, beige, orange.

Agree with statement earings - red heads naturally look great with chunky jewlry, you werent born to fade in to the background.

Good shops for red head colour is monsoon, warehouse and top shop.

Try dying eyebrows and lashes if they are very fair and try a light bronzer to hihlight the complexion.

I agree re florence.

gindrinker · 16/02/2013 07:37

I agree wear colour. I tend to go for hot pinks, greens and turquoises.
I also wear a lot of black, but navy looks better. Gap seem to get things right for my colouring quite a lot of the time?

browneyedpixie · 16/02/2013 08:09

I go for.funky.bold looks.
Brown.eyed.not.a.natural red! Same.age

As a natural redhead I find that colours either look fab or terrible, I stick to greens (almost always work), blues, grey, yellow (looks fabby), purple (although I'm not in a purple mood these days). You can wear some shades of red, but have to tread carefully, pink is almost always a no no and sadly so is orange.

Of course you can wear pink, red, orange away from your top half, but I've never been bold enough to wear orange trousers.

LaTrucha · 16/02/2013 10:19

I am a redhead with grey eyes. I mostly wear white, dark grey, mid blues, forest greens, leaf greens, some pinks.

I think it really varies! I look awful in some of the colours already mentioned, like purple. It makes me look ten years older than I am.

TheRivieraKid · 19/02/2013 13:04

My main problem is that despite being a natural redhead with an 'Irish' complexion (bright blue eyes, freckles, very pale skin), I'm not confident enough to experiment much in clothes. So I've always been a blue or green kind of girl. I find most clothing very hit and miss and don't have the time or money to spend looking for clothes all day.

I love Joan from Mad Men and Florence but my hair is more orange than deep red and I'm a lot shorter than they are (and deffo less busty than Joan) Grin

I'm interested in Nobby's idea of getting colours done, have considered it before but it's expensive!
