Title says it all really, we are going to a wedding soon and I've tried and failed to find a long dress that fits. My friend let me borrow this dress. Honest opinions please. Pic is on my profile.

Are you going for the day, or just the evening? I would shy away from black for a day event...

applesandbears · 11/02/2013 20:29

The whole day. I wanted to stick to black so I don't stand out. I was going to have a gold bag to match my belt. My legs are huge, I don't know if I can actually wear it yet. What do you honk of my legs? Please be honet.

Honk= think
Honet= honest

Bloody phone.

I think it fits well...just not sure it's very wedding-y.

MrsMeow · 11/02/2013 20:32

I think the dress is lovely and the belt really cinched your waist in and gives you a lovely shape. I'd steer away from having your hands in the pockets though, it makes it look quite frumpy and shapeless.

I would wear a nice bright shrug/cropped cardigan/jacket with it. Maybe in cerise or bright blue, and have a matching bag.

Your legs look fab :)

applesandbears · 11/02/2013 20:32

Shit shit shit. Maybe I should just stay at home and send Dh and the DC.

Thank you MrsMeow, ok no hands in pockets :)

I think the belt is a bit cheap looking. Legs look ok to me!

applesandbears · 11/02/2013 20:35

Would a gold shrug/jacket be ok do you think?

OP posts:
applesandbears · 11/02/2013 20:35

Well it was only £4 Grin

Is there a bit over your norks? Like a cami ?

MrsMeow · 11/02/2013 20:36

I might be a lone voice here but I SO would wear black to a wedding, and have done (black trousers)

As long as its not the wedding of an ex boyfriend and you're not in full Victorian mourning garb including veil, I don't see the problem Wink

I feel for you. We have a wedding coming up and I'm dreading finding something to wear already.

formallyknownasloveydarling · 11/02/2013 20:38

I have no idea how to check someone's profile but I just wanted to respond to your last comment.
No matter what you look like, please do not stay at home. You have been invited for a reason and that reason has nothing to do with how you look. Please go. It is not fair on the bride, the groom, your dh, your kids or most importantly yourself if you don't go. And honestly speaking, even if you turn up wearing a bin liner, no one will even remember a week later! Please, seek professional help for your low self esteem. Xxx

MrsMeow · 11/02/2013 20:38

Gold is good! Maybe a sparkly hair clip as well, or even a fascinator if you're a fascinator wearing kind of person...

applesandbears · 11/02/2013 20:40

No but normally my boobs would fill the dress but I'd been out all day and I had whipped my bra off before taking pics.... It looks much better with my boobs in the right place!

OP posts:
applesandbears · 11/02/2013 20:41

Thank you formally, I'm just being silly.

Pooh yes sparkly hair clip is a good idea.

I wouldn't wear black especially with black tights aswell; but the style is nice on you and your legs are fine.

What about this in blue?

Selks · 11/02/2013 21:00

I think it looks great, and would be fine for a wedding if you can inject a splash of colour somewhere - how about some bright coloured shoes or pashmina?

applesandbears · 11/02/2013 21:00

That's nice but only goes upto a 16 and I'm a lot bigger than that!

OP posts:
applesandbears · 11/02/2013 21:01

I have a lovely pair of red or dusky pink heals. The black owns aren't comfortable anyway.

mycatlikestwiglets · 11/02/2013 21:25

I also think it looks great and absolutely fine for a wedding although I'd probably ditch the black tights and go for nude. Lots of people wear black to weddings these days but often mixed with another primary colour or white so the black doesn't dominate. Red shoes with red pashmina would be my choice!
