I thought it was a dress!

Bought [http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10001_10001_007010811660_-1?breadcrumb=Home%7EWomen%7ETops this] to wear for night out tomorrow, but I thought it was a dress! Will it be OK with thick black tights or will I look like I've forgotten my trousers?

Depends how tall you are. The model is 5'8"

CheddarGorgeous · 07/02/2013 21:03

How tall are you and how flimsy is the material?

ginmakesitallok · 07/02/2013 21:05

I'm about 5' 9. Material isn't the thickest. I wouldn't be able to raise my arms above my head (but don't plan on that...)

Looks like a dress to me. If you've got the legs go for it sheer tights would look much much better, or hold ups if you like a little bit of risk.

Juustanothermnetter · 07/02/2013 21:11

It'll look hot if you have good legs. Definately thick black tights though.

Have fun!

ginmakesitallok · 07/02/2013 21:16

Hold ups??!! Let me explain further. I have quite good legs, but am nearly 40 and a size 18.

OP posts:
pictish · 07/02/2013 21:18

Says it's a top.

ginmakesitallok · 07/02/2013 21:20

I know that now Pictish, unfortunately it wasn't labelled 'top' in the shop.

OP posts:
pictish · 07/02/2013 21:22

Oh I seee...you actually shopped in a shop?

Well yeah sorry. It's still a top. You'll need trousers.

bunnymother · 07/02/2013 21:22

Can you wear a short, tight black miniskirt under it in case you do need to lift your arms?

Fallenangle · 07/02/2013 21:22

Ok OP. i agree with thick black tights. I'm still sure you will look great and no one will think you have forgotten your trousers.

ginmakesitallok · 07/02/2013 21:23

Bugger. What sort of trousers? Out straight after work, in meetings all day, only chance would be tesco at lunch time.

OP posts:
ginmakesitallok · 07/02/2013 21:25

Model is wearing with leggings, I have really thick tights that look like leggings, what's the difference?

OP posts:
ooer · 07/02/2013 21:26

Why has nobody suggested leggings? Surely Tesco would have?

Or black skinny trousers I suppose.

pictish · 07/02/2013 21:28

No. I am 37 and a size 18. That is not a dress for me. That is a top.
Wearing anything that stops you putting your hands over your head is a bad move. Even with the thickest of thick tights.
What if you have to sit down opposite someone without a table to hide under? What if you drop something?
What if you have to high five someone??!! Grin

Take it from me, you will spend the whole night tugging at your hem and trying not to move.

MrsMushroom · 07/02/2013 21:28

How dd you mistake it for a dress since the description says "Tunic top" Grin

pictish · 07/02/2013 21:29

Leggings or the blackest of black canvas skinnies.

Delayingtactic · 07/02/2013 21:29

Hmm. How far down your thigh is it? I have stupidly long thighs in comparison to the whole of my leg and even dressed that are a respectable length past my bum look short because you can still see a lot of thigh IYSWIM. Also if you can't put your arms above your head can you lean forward without showing the world your knickers?

ginmakesitallok · 07/02/2013 21:29

Can you wear leggings with long black boots?

OP posts:
pictish · 07/02/2013 21:30

She bought it in the actual shop!
I know...i was shocked too. I thought I was the only person alive who still did that! Grin

ginmakesitallok · 07/02/2013 21:30

Mrs mushroom, there wasn't a label in the shop. I didn't buy on line

OP posts:
pictish · 07/02/2013 21:30

Aye. You can.

ginmakesitallok · 07/02/2013 21:31

Grin old fashioned us eh Pictish?

OP posts:
ProPerformer · 07/02/2013 21:32

Ok I'd wear it as a dress with thick tights like leggings (prob like you described op ) or with thick footless tights. However I'm 28 and a size 10 so.... I say if you're confident enough then go for it!
