Are brogues still 'in'

I realise that having to ask marks me out as a fashion amateur but still need to know... I fancy a pair to wear with some slim fit trousers.

Think I prefer Brogues to Oxfords. Just bought some black brogues yesterday but I'm keen on the paler shades - cream probably for summer and I'm loving the two tone? I like them to have a long toe because I like the look of long feet!

Any solutions for what to wear on your feet instead of socks with them? I have Clarks black heeled brogues and love them but even as soft as they are I need a foot covering and all manner of footsies things I have tried just slip off. I want to get nude or white brogues but bare ankles are essential.

I wear the Clarkes brogues for work. I have to wear flat black shoes with my uniform (think female version of a mans' suit,) and they are fab! They are very comfy and hard wearing - I've worn mine at work every day for about 4 months now and they still look smart, and I often have to walk through some fairly gross stuff in them! Usually my work shoes end up with the top part coming away from the sole due to walking about in rain, snow and chemicals, but these are going strong, and they clean up really well. If they decide to discontinue them, please someone give me a shout so I can go and buy about 10 pairs! I would say they are the best pair of work shoes I've ever had. (I had a nice pair of Doc Martens once which lasted for ages and had a nice shiny finish, but they discontinued them, and they didn't look quite as nice as these although they were certainly harder wearing.)

Brogues are classic british footware , they will never date.....

Thanks for all the input. Think I'll get some cheapy oxfords first and if I like them maybe go for the clarks when the discount codes are out!

The 'coming soon' silver ones on the Clarks website look really good.

CointreauVersial · 03/02/2013 14:40

What would you stylish laydees be wearing with your brogues? What trouser shape/length?

Snowkey · 03/02/2013 15:39

Silvery gold I hope - saw the Bum lady had featured them in her blog. I'll be wearing mine with short dresses and skirts, cropped trousers and skinny jeans...they need to be long toed for skinny jeans though IMO.

Do you women not know about pop socks?! Not those skittery wee ones that don't cover your foot, the proper ones that are like actual socks but made out of tight material. Keep your feet toasty when it's a bit chilly, stop your shoes rubbing and from getting smelly nelly from wearing them bare soled. £2.50, pack of five from marksies.

CointreauVersial · 03/02/2013 16:39

It's a long time since the phrase "pop socks" has been used on Style & Beauty.Grin

bigTillyMint · 04/02/2013 17:18

CV, I wear thick woolly socks with mine and jeans/cords. Not a popsock in sightSmile

CashmereHoodlum · 05/02/2013 10:05

I am a figure of fun among my friends for my love of popsocks. I can't go barefoot in shoes, I just can't. I'm told sweaty blistered feet are infinitely preferable to popsocks though.
