Frumpy overweight Mummy needs help with shoe problem....

I'm overweight and feeling really frumpy atm. I stick to trinny and tranny's rules for my body shape and always wear wide leg trousers or jeans with a v neck top and boots to hide my horrid ankles and feet. I feel like branching out this summer and possibly letting my legs (bottom half only, below the knee) see the light of day. Have invested in some fake tan to stave off pastiness but I need help with shoes...

I have horrid square feet with thick puffy ankles. I quite fancy a pair of wedgie type sandals, Evans (their wide fittings are better for me) have a gorgeous pair of pink espadrille wedgies that I am coveting with all my heart.

Will they just look crap on me though?

Well not sure trinny and tranny would go for pink 0 but I reckon the wedge is a good shape for thick ankles (which I have). This is always a challenge as the long skirt can leave showing that bit of leg you'd most like to hide. High wedge - I think go for it with a big smile on your face.

even more reason to get them if you love them

Birkies are good - especially if you give yourself a fab pedicure with a bright varnish, but as for your pink wedgies no they will not look crap on you they will look fantastic, if you covet them with all your heart and dream about wearing them then go for it.... Sorry for the ott, but sometimes I think we all worry too much about what people might or might not think about what we might or might not look like. Why not buy 2 pairs!!!!!!!!

controlfreaky2 · 24/04/2006 22:16

agree re birkies / bright ballet pumps. comfort and style in one. pedicure and nail varnih essential for birkies. also never let a dh / dp / anyone male wear a pair.... yuk to hairy toes and yellowy horny nails on display to all....

tangerinecath · 24/04/2006 22:41

I can't wait to see the 'gorgeous pair of pink espadrille wedgies' in real life, they sound fab.

I have the problem that my shoes must be dead flat or I am tripping up all day, I'm such a clumsy cow. :)

Bugger - I was looking at them! Do they tie around the ankle?

like them!

Am coveting the stripey wedges in Clarks myself (no open toes to work, damned Health and Safety). Also quite like the Linen Low Wedge in Evans - seem more suitable for office wear, but def not as covetable!

re skirt length - sometimes one that stops exactly at the narrowest part of leg (usu an inch below kneecap, before calves start) can work v well. Fluted hemline to soften edge also worth trying.

They're the ones BE :)

I have also invested in a flary skirt that ends just below the knee, a real departure for me, which will look fab with them.

Am going to try them on tomorrow. I'm not sure about the ribbon tie either but I'll see what they look like on.
